Unofficial DNS Error Fix (80710102)

To anyone who has been suffering from DNS errors on their PS3 (error code 80710102), you can manually bypass your Internet Service Provider's DNS server and using an alternative one.

I have had good experiences when using the opendns.com DNS server numbers (they're free to use too).

My ISP is Sky and I have had alot of problems recently with random disconnects, and sometimes not being able to sign into the PSN at all. My friend has tested this out too, he is using TalkTalk as his ISP so these settings should help with any service provider.

In order to set up your PS3 to use the opendns.com server, you must go through the Internet Connection Settings again:

Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings

Select Yes, then Custom

Choose your connection method - Wired or Wireless

If you're Wired, select Auto-Detect for the Ethernet Operation Mode

If you're Wireless, select the security type that your router is using and enter your Wireless Password

IP Address Settings - Automatic and then Do Not Set (DHCP host name)

DNS Settings - Manual and enter the numbers below

Primary DNS            208.67.222.222

Secondary DNS       208.67.220.220

MTU - Automatic

Proxy Server - Do Not Use

UPnP - Enable

Then press X to save the settings, and then X again to test the connection. The 'Internet Connection' should now pass, and hopefully there will be no more DNS errors!

Re: Unofficial DNS Error Fix (80710102)

Sorry.. Had to double post.

Has anyone noticed that using this method makes you a lot laggier?
I noticed this in Call of Duty 4. No DNS error but it's really laggy. Maybe it was a coincidental 2 matches (I had 3 bars).
I'm going to test it more, if this is the case, I'll tell you guys. Is there another method of removing DNS error?

Re: Unofficial DNS Error Fix (80710102)

I've noticed no lag, my GF's played almost 12 hours of Warhawk using the new settings. Ping is registering as 0 though...
