Orange Livebox Explained
Hey guys,
The guide we have finally been waiting for.
Orange were so kind they decided to upgrade me to a Livebox (After 6 years lol).
So i have gone through all the settings to hopefully help us when we get a query on the box.
Orange or Inventel (Makers of the Livebox) do not support the product,
so please use this as a reference as its all tried and tested, and may i add its actually a good piece of kit!

----
WIRELESS STANDARD:
The wireless standard of the Livebox is.
802.11G & 802.11B Mixed
It is already a mixed signal and does not give you an option to alter the signal to one or the other,
so this will not cause a problem.
MAC FILTER:
The Livebox has a Mac Filter, but this will not cause an issue.
When a device connects to the Livebox, it stores the Mac Address on the filter. You only get an option to remove a Mac Address, not to add one.
So, again, this will not cause an issue.
* To access the routers configuration page.
- Open up a internet browser page and type in
http://192.168.1.1
- Or you should have a "Configure The Livebox" icon on their Desktop.
-On the page you should click "Access To Configuration Pages..." Its a long orange link on the main page.
-It will ask you for a User Name and Password.
*Username - admin
*Password - admin
(It is case sensitive)
*Now you will be on the main page. On the left you will have all the options in Black.
On, now we are on the main page here is how to Troubleshoot--------------------------------------
------------
Wireless Channel:
If you can connect fine, but keeps getting disconnected all the time, it could be, that the wireless channel you are using has too much traffic or interfeirance on it. To change the wireless channel go to......
Security (Left of the router page) > Wireless Connection > Change Channel to 6
I was on channel 1 by default, when i scanned with my PSP it was 35% signal strength. Changed to channel 6 and got 100%.
*Please note, that if you have any other wireless devices connected to the router, i.e Laptop PC etc, it may disconnect them from the internet. If you need to do this, ask them to do it with Orange as it can affect the connection. If you are hardwired into their PC or Laptop, it shouldnt affect it.!
Firewall:
If you have a firewall installed on your PC, it is advised to turn the firewall in the Livebox to Low setting. To do this go to.....
Security > Firewall > Select Low (Disabel Firewall) option.
For some reason, my PSP or PS3 could not connect when it was set to medium or high, but it did when i changed it to low o_O!!!
Wireless Security:
This is the main reason for PSP's / PS3s not connecting to the Livebox. Orange, had a great idea of combining the WEP and WPA keys together for dual security, as genius as it is, for a PC or Laptop, the PS3 is a console and does not like this setup. To get the PS3/PSP working, this must be done.......
Configuration (Left of the homepage) > Advanced > Wireless > Change to WEP Only setting and Submit Changes.
As standard it comes as WEP and WPA setting, this works for PC's And Laptops but not for what we want to do. Please make sure that if this is changed, that you can still access the home network, it shouldnt cause a problem.
Now we need to find the WEP Key. This, sometimes, IS NOT the same as on the packaging!! Its best to check what the router says the WEP Key is. To check this go to.......
Security > Wireless Connection > WEP Key will be displayed here.
The WEP Key the router comes with is quite long and is Alphanumeric, normally in capitals, make sure this is put in correctly.
UPnP:
The Livebox usually has this enabled as default, if this needs to be checked, go to........
Configuration (Left of the homepage) > Advanced > UPnP > The UPnP button will say UPnP Disable or Enable.
Don't be a div! If the UPnP button says UPnP Disable that means its enabled, and vice versa. Again, if the option is disabled you need to enable this with Orange as it can affect the Connection on your home network.
DMZ:
If a DMZ needs to be enabled, it could'nt be simpler. First, here is the DHCP Range of the Livebox.~
DHCP Start - 192.168.1.9
DHCP End - 192.168.1.200
It is a weird one but you can set the DMZ to anything out of this range. Any thing from....
192.168.1.2 TO 192.186.1.8
OR
192.168.1.201 TO 192.168.1.254
BUT NOT 192.168.1.162 as this is normally the COMPUTERS IP ADDRESS!!
Ok, so now you know the ranges, here is how to set the DMZ up....
Configuration > Advanced > Router > DMZ Setup > Next to the "Configure DMZ on this Computer" Button enter the DMZ IP adress, then click the "Configure DMZ on this Computer.
Once the page refreshes, it should confirm with you that the DMZ is enabled on the router, and another button will appear that says "Remove DMZ". If a DMZ needs to be enabled, the firewall setting on the router must be set to low before hand, this has been covered earlier on.
Port Forwarding:
OK, port forwarding needs to be done for any reason, its real simple to perform on the Livebox, heres how to do it.......
Configuration > Advanced > Router > DMZ Setup > At the top of the screen, you will see "Port Forwarding - NAT." Below press the "Add" button.
On the service section, check "Manual Service" and call it whatever, i.e PS3one. Below select the Protocol as TCP or UDP (Whichever ports you are forwarding). Then for External Port option, type in the port number, type in the same port number for Internal Port. Then for the Server IP Address Box, type in the Computers IP addess, this is displayed above the Service section of the port forwading option, then press submit. Do the same for all ports.
If you require to open multiple ports of the same protocol i.e TCP, then enter the port numbers like this 4722-4688 so both ports will be opened. Confused? Below is a layout of what this looks like.
(Should say the compters IP address here)
SERVICE
(click here) Service (Scroll Option Box)
(click here) Manual Service (Type Manual Service Here i.e PS3one)
Protocol (Select TCP or UDP from Drop Down Menu)
External Port (Type in port number(s) i.e 4711 or 4711-4699)
Internal Port (Type in same port number(s) i.e 4711 or 4711-4699)
Server IP Address(Type In Computers Ip Adress i.e 192.168.1.162)
SUBMIT < Button
Then do the same for UDP etc.
Once you have added one Protocol, i.e TCP Ports. When you add the UDP Ports, you must type in a different manual service name. I.E PS3two. If you call it the same thing as the previous protocol, it will overwrite it!!
This is the end of the guide. See this is how simple it is to use the Livebox. The Livebox has no other settings that affects the PS3's/PSP's connectivity to it. If you are unsure of any of these settings or you think i made no sense at all, just ask.......
