Re: Welcome Back program just announced by Sony

But its western compensation culture, people even expect compensation for things they didn't pay for.  Hey your free service was offline I demand a refund for the time, sure no problem!!:Stupid:

The point for me was the leaking of personal information rather than any time I could spend using a free service.  Don't how you can compensate for that as its a trust issue in the companys secure handling of your data rather than any network outage I am worried about.

So Sony need to regain the trust of there customers, how are they doing it? by offering a few outdated games from a very limited selection I already have or have no interest in, and a sub for a month to a service I never used or felt the need to use?  seriously thats what they came up with, a few bargain bucket games and a promo offer for PS+...

I have invested alot in my PS3, I prefer it to the Xbox, I have some 20+ titles on my shelf, many friends on list, and PSN is still free online gaming, so yeah I'll stick around, but when next gen comes the incident will always be remembered.

Waaaaaa! I have these games! Boohoo!

People need to learn how to not moan. Personally, I'd be happy if they didn't give us anything and just gave us the network back.

The fact they're giving us compensation shows they actually care about their customers. If you have the games they're offering already, then sucks for you, but what can they do about it?

If they offered some rubbish minis, you'd be complaining they're no good. So, shut up moaning.

Exactly, PERSONALLY.  Your own opinion.  And other people's opinions differ, especially the ones who already have the games and feel they are not being rewarded when others are.

So shut up being positive :smileyhappy:

I'm not complaining about the choice myself, just not particularly impressed by it either.

Like many things lately, I don't think Sony really thought this through and much of the flack they have been getting the past 3 weeks has been brought on themselves.

Re: Welcome Back program just announced by Sony

Its the principle of the thing, its about company brand and trust.

They have a long way to go to get over this issue, many customers will be lost and they need to keep their remaining player base happy, the package they are offering is just rubbish in that regard, sure its better than a kick in the nuts, but will it restore my faith in Sonys name?  A few 2 year old games I already have and a sub to a service I have no interest in, don't think so.  They needed to make the appeasement offer useful and appealing to everyone.  They should have added the value of the 2 games and month sub to your PSN wallet and let you spend it in store as you see fit, not put restrictions on what you can have, people could have bought the games and the subs if thats what they're into, or something else that actually is useful to them like DLC or a game they don't already have.  Its not about the value, its about it being useful to everyone.

The PS+ sub is really bugging me aswell, it is basically a promo for PS+, they are trying to launch a promo for PS+ inside a package meant to regain trust and apologise for comprimising our personal info (including the fact they don't even know if credit card details where hacked or not)!

If I was Sony after this I would sack everyone in my Public Relations dept as the PR around this whole incedent has been a shambles, from the first press statements to their "loyalty offer" the PR people have done nothing but made the situation worse.

Also if you total up the cost of 2 games for every customer from that list that is a substantial profit loss they are willing to take for their customers.

WRONG. It would be profit loss if all customers wanted to buy those games and now they get them for free. Personally I (and I assume many other people) had no intention of buying those games so in my case they are not losing any profit because of this offer.

All the people saying that we shouldn't complain because we are being given something for free, when PSN is already a free service, are talking complete nonsense. I had pretty much ALL of my personally identifiable information stolen, and so did around 99,999,999 other people, and you think this "Welcome Back Package" is sufficient?

If my identity got cloned, it would cost me a whole lot more than the £50 or so this "Welcome Back Package" is worth. That's until the Identity Theft cover kicks into place, by which time I'd probably be penniless and I'd need a new identity in order to get on with my life.

I won't lie, I don't have any of the games on that list except for LBP so I suppose being given two free games and is better than nothing. I will say that I expected a better reward structure though, because those who do have all the games are left "rewardless". As others have said, it would have been more of a reward to loyal customers if the structure was as it is now, plus an option for those who own all of the games (or think none of them take their fancy) then you could choose from something else, such as:

  • 1 free DLC content;
  • 5 free HD Video rentals;
  • £10-£15 credit to your Wallet;
  • 2 free Mini's;
  • Anything else which makes it fair for everyone.

The 30 days free PS+ subscription is a just win-win for Sony. It'll cost them next to nothing compared to the revenue they will make in future for those who decide they did like PS+ during this free 30 day window, and will then go on to purchase a subscription. That's not a reward for loyal customers, it's just a money-making exercise for Sony.

They could offer money off future games, or just credit wallets with a bit. It's not about there being compensation or not, that is immaterial. I wouldn't mind there being no compensation. What is annoying is that I have already paid for all of those games, except LBP which was free for PS+ subscribers anyway.

So I feel I am missing out because I have paid more than the average PS3 user anyway (PS+ and all those games - at release price, not reduced), and am now being penalised for it. It seems that Sony are really rewarding the "semi-loyal" and ignoring the "super-loyal".

But it's a great year for games, and I have a huge back log anyway, so it's more the principle.

I have to say though - it is an outstanding list of games to get for free if there are any you don't already have.

[ Edited ]

My opinion on the whole thing.

Its a nice gesture, and to be honest it was very thoughtful for Sony to do this in the first place. The 30 day PSN+ package is incredibly generous imo.

The problem with the pack however is the games. Its the fact that these games have been played by a vast majority. The problem is that the 'Welcome Back Pack' only really benefits the odd cavemen who have never played these games, not the main gamers.

I'd prefer for this to not be included, because its unfair on other people who miss out on the opporttunity.

The Home stuff is also a bit unfair. I've got so many mates who never use Home, and not every PSN user goes on Home, so this portion is also pretty unfair on them. They dont go on Home, the PSN goes down, and Home users get rewarded but not the other gamers?

so 1/3 of the pack is actually a benefit to most gamers. I'm not complaining, cause its generous for Sony to think of this. I just think that they could have thought of another way to 'Welcome Back' players

Edit: you also say that 'I've got 2,3 or all of the games on this list but its still a good list', yet how many of you guys have said this? Its only good for the minority, not the majority
