Thinking about upgrading our current wireless router as it is getting old, however i've seen alot of routers offering wireless N instead of Wireless G,i'm led to believe that Wireless N is faster and better at dealing with mulitple users of the internet at the same time within the same household, also it is quicker overall....
Anyone that owns a Wireless N network that used to own a Wireless G router does it really make alot of differance?..was it worth it?....do you have any problems that you didn't have when you were useing Wireless G?...
I take it i can just plug it in to my PC then use Wireless items like the PS3/Laptops/ and other wireless items without having to buy anything else for it to work?.
Thanks in advance for replys.

Wireless 'N' isn't all it's cracked up to be & the majority of hardware has to be matched (belkin 'N' router to belkin 'N' net card)to get best performance & imo you don't get what you pay for. 'N' quoted speeds are theoretical & in everyday use you get a lot less speed than you would expect, it's only real benefit is transferring LARGE files across a network. As for the ps3, it doesn't have 'N' capabilities, or at least the PHAT ps3's don't.
It's a total waste of money going 'N' . I know i have .......

My Dlink router is "Draft N". Is that the same as normal wireless N?
As soon as anything not wireless N conects to it it drops everything to 54Mbps so not really worth it.

That's because most (if not all) of the"N" routers out now were built before 802.11n was a ratified standard. This means that each manufacturer pretty much went with their own interpretation of the 802.11n model. A lot like when 56K dialup was first launched, we had X2 and K56Flex before V90 was ratified. The V90 modems included some way of integrating backwards compatibility with the older interpretations of 56K but sometimes they didn't work properly depending upon the manufacturer. The ISP I worked at had all sorts of problems with our V90 racks and some K56flex modems (curse those blastermodems).
No doubt the same problem will arise now that 802.11n is ratified. I'd hold off buying an "N" router till it's all settled down.

I run Windows 7, so I don't know about other Operating Systems ... but Windows 7 automatically has media sharing that works 100% with PS3 ... so if your PC and your PS3 are both on, and you are sharing files in Windows on your Hard drive, such as movies, pictures, mp3's etc ... your PS3 will recognise it ... you can browse the files on your PC from your PS3. Other than that, external USB hard drives, USB memory sticks etc are recognised too by PS3. Google is full of guides ![]()
Happy transferring.
And yes, N is much better if you buy the new hardware. It's well worth it over G which is sloooooooow!
