I've been trying to download the 4.11 update since Feb The and it gets to about 40% and simply says error code 80710723, the code list says I need to look at my port settings.
I really don't know how to look at them or even what is wrong. I got really angry earlier :-( But I would love it if some could help me please.

Hi Dave,
What brand/model is your modem&/router?
What are the results (all the results) of an Internet Connection Test?
Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test
Alternatively:
Try downloading the update to a USB stick

- Download from here
- Make a folder on your USB stick called \PS3\UPDATE (I.E. an UPDATE folder within a PS3 folder. Instructions say it must be in capitals)
- Copy the downloaded PS3UPDAT.PUP file into the folder.
- Connect the USB stick to the PS3.
- Go to [Settings] on the PS3.
- Select [System Update] and then
- [Update via Storage Media].
- Select the USB stick and your PS3 will install the update firmware from there.

Hey Rob thank you for your response.
I've tried to upload the file from an external hard drive, but its not working. Says it cant find the file. I'm not sure how to tell you the model of the modem/router, but here is some infomation at the bottom. Sorry to be so vague, but thank you very much for your help.

Did you put the firmware in a \PS3\UPDATE folder on the external drive?
DGN1000SP is the router model but you didn't post an internet connection test.
Are you in the UK?

Hello, yes I am in the UK.
I've done the test and it just says
Obtain IP Address - Succeeded
Internet Connection - Succeeded
And thats it, it hasn't done any of the other stuff.
R.E External drive, yeah I did put it in a seperate folder and named it \PS3\UPDATE

If you don't get results for all of the entries below then there is something wrong with your internet setup.
Most importantly, for any online activity such as online games and voice/video chat, you should have UPnP Available and NAT type 2.
If Playstation Network didn't succeed, are you not signing into the Playstation Network on your PS3? (edit: of course not, you need to update your firmware
)
Upload and download speeds give you an important indication of the quality of your interent connection. If you have a bad connection it's no wonder you can't download an uncorrupted copy of the firmware.

Actually, I think you should just call the Sony Support centre. Your local number is in the back of the little booklet that comes with most games.
