Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

Hey,

Just wondering...The modem you use with satilite, the same as a normal ADSL modem? And can I just buy a ADSL modem with wireless access so that I can hook my playstation up to it?

(sorry if that made no sense...I just passed english...obvious much?)

Are you in Australia?

What brand/model is the modem to which you are referring?

Re: Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

Is the satellite modem a modem router? or just a modem?

Does it have extra ethernet ports in the back of it.

If it does have ethernet ports in the back, you should be able to just connect an access point to it.

Otherwise you can find a router with WIFI that you can bridge, or a Router and Access point.

Re: Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

Thanks for the replys, I'm not sure on the modem as of I haven't moved to that house YET.

But I just wanted to see if it is possible, does anyone know if satilite modems are any different to the basic modem you would normally use?

Re: Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

Yeah mate, a satellite connection is just like any other(like adsl, cable etc). Your modem uses your satellite connection to hook up to the internet. You CAN buy a modem with wireless, and set up an access point to connect your PS3. Or, most modems now have ethernet ports on them, if your modem has these, and the PS3 is close by, you can get an ethernet cable to connect it. The cable is more reliable than wireless, but wireless works well 95% of the time

Re: Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

No worries. But be aware that satellite is notorious for being horrible for gaming - the ping is very high, even compared to the likes of 3G mobile broadband. All the best dude

Re: Connecting Satlilite Internet to PS3?

sorry man, but you'd find out sooner or later... I'm not saying that it will definitly be slow at gaming, it's just something to keep in mind. The connection is usually pretty good (my mum has satellite), it's more often the ping that lets it down. Ping is a measurement for data to travel from your connection > to the server > then back to your connection. Therefore if the ping is too high, gaming usually suffers as data is constantly moving in both directions. Downloading anything is not an issue though. If you have other options, such as ADSL, it might be worth looking into those... :smileyhappy:
