Lost and Cannot Reconnect Wireless Internet

[ Edited ]

I have had my PS3 connected to the Internet (wireless) through my BT Business Hub for years wthout any problems.

We have recently been having intermittent Internet problems though, so BT advised my wife to hit the Reset button on the Hub. Doing this caused me to reset all Internet connections on my Laptop and other devices using this Hub, simply by deleting the account and setting up again (using the WEP key). However, when trying to set up the account again on PS3 it just refuses to connect, saying it cannot find the IP address or the Internet connection fails. I have tried entering the IP address manually, changing the DNS, disabling the Media connection etc - nothing works.

I also have another BT business Hub nearby (which I use for my work) - even with this one it fails to get an internet connection, even though it's a very strong and reliable signal. Both hubs are 2Wire Gateway hubs. I cannot connect direct with ethernet cables as it is in an awkward position and impossible to stretch.

When I originally set up the connection, all I did was identify the hub, enter the WEP key and that was it. What's causing the problems now?

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

Can you confirm that all your other devices(laptops, phones etc.) are connected to the internet again? or are they having trouble too?

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

Is there ANY internet connections (weather yours, or next door) shown when searching for Wireless connections on the PS3?

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

It shows both my internet connections plus surrounding houses.

I have tried those neighbours without a security key and it will not connect to them either. I would have thought that if it failed to connect again to the original BT hub, that I would be able to connect to the other one, but something has obviously happened where it is refusing to connect to anything.

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

Try using the router settings to set either a WPA key, or a different WEP key. Another thing to try would be to change the wireless channel of the router in the hubs advanced settings.

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

after you select your router when setting up a internet connection, did you try WPA instead of WEP? As I have a person who lives next door with a hub and their router accepts WPA or WPA2 only.

Re: Lost and cannot reconnect wireless internet

I had previously tried both WEP and WAP keys.

I have now changed both the channel and WEP Key on one of the hubs/routers (as just changing the channel didn't work) and it has finally gone through and connected to the internet. Of course changing the WEP key means having to change any other devices logged into it, but this was all done OK as well.

Thanks for the advice and help - let's hope nothing like this happens again!!
