Lovefilm and Slow connection (just on my PS3) Help

Hi, We recently had a trial of Netflix and it worked fine.

I am on O2 ADSL2 and get a constant 6 to 7MB download and 1mb upload on our line. This is only on our laptops though. Whenever I do a speedtest using the connection test on my original playstation 3 it says I am barely getting 2.5mb download and sometimes 100kb upload.

Why would this be?

It was also saying UPNP unavailable until recently when I went into my router settings and turned UPNP off then back on again. This solved the UPNP unavailable message but the connection is still a lot slower than the rest of my laptops and devices.

All wireless, I have no wired connections in my house. The PS3 is pretty close to the router and has a good 90% signal strength so it is not that.

The reason I posted regarding lovefilm is it is always buffering and it is almost unwatchable.

Anyone any ideas what may be causing this issue?

I have spoken to O2 and they say there are "no ports" to open up or anything. It cannot be O2 themselves slowing it as otherwise Lovefilm would not be fine on my laptop.

Please help I am at a loss as to why my PS3 seems to get a much slower connection that the rest of my devices on the same router. (Even though I cannot use speedtest.net on my PS3 because of the outdated browser and lack of java!!!, why dont they update this too?)

Thanks in advance

Liam

Re: Lovefilm and Slow connection (just on my PS3) Help

speedtests on the ps3 are very rarely accurate so ignore it

if your ps3 is close i suggest wiring it to the router as wireless connections are open to interferance and this could be 1 of the problems

also r u running laptops or anything else on the net at the same time

Re: Lovefilm and Slow connection (just on my PS3) Help

Have you tried changing the wireless channel on your router if not you will find it will be on the same channel as everyone else near where you live which could be causing interference.

You will need to go into your router settings to change it.

It might also be worth trying your ps3 wired as it will increase you connection reliability.

As wireless isn't that good at the best of times unless your just general surfing which doesn't require alot of bandwidth.

im not sure how or why this would happen but my nephew and i have found that we often get really slow downloads with psn and i mean really slow but weve found that by reseting our routers for some reason sorts the speed out, im also sick of the security of the page can not be confirmed messages that have plagued my ps3 browser for months

Re: Lovefilm and Slow connection (just on my PS3) Help

Get home plugs they are the equivalent of wired but plug into your plug sockets so you can have them anywhere without the hassles of a wire trailing everywhere.

Are you on O2 wireless router 2, 3 or 4 as i had loads of problems with wireless router 3 even when it was running wired.

Gave up with it in the end & bought my own router & never had any problems since.

No the ps3 doesn't have an N card in it

Do your laptops work on lovefilm ok ?

Re: Lovefilm and Slow connection (just on my PS3) Help

Wire it or homeplugs as said above especially for watching streaming services Wifi's just pants.

You can get a decent pair of homeplugs for around the price of a new game or less. They have improved a lot tech wise recently and can run over your home electrical supply for few hundred metres of wiring.

I have a pair of these in the link below currently being used on a Freeview HD recorder upstairs have had the PS3 running on them aswell.

Its an O2 wireless box 4.

I dont need plug ins, the connection is fine between the router and the ps3.

Like I stated above the laptops run lovefilm with no issues..

There's your problem the O2 wireless box 2 manufactured by Thomson i believe. I have seen enough bad reviews and PSN technical problems posted here and around the net regarding that model.

sorry my mistake its an o2 wireless box 4.. The new one with two antenna and wireless N7

Signal is 100% according to my PS3.

I suppose my question to all fellow users is does your PSN speEdtest from the ps3 menu give much lower results than a speEdtest.net test on your PCs and does it show lower connection speeds than you know you are getting?
