According to the portable ID generator, PS3 users public profile pages should be at:

http://eu.playstation.com/psn/profile/USERNAME

(Replace USERNAME with your username, obvs.)

...but that just takes me to a sign up page - even when I'm already logged in.  Do public profile pages actually exist on Sony's PSN site?

Signing in on the forums doesn't sign you in to ever page on the PS site. You still have to log in on the profile page. This is what's called a security measure.

My question wasn't about the forums or related to the forum login process.

When you login to the Playstation site, you are given the opportunity to create a Portable ID.

The code it generates links back to URL I provided, and the format indicates it should be a publicly viewable PSN profile page.  But when you click it, you're taken to a sign up page, regardless of whether you are logged in or not.  It doesn't matter if you're logged into uk.playstation.com, the playstation EU blog, this forum or all three at the same time, you will *always* get that signup page.

Click the portable id in my signature and you will see what I mean.

So, did that profile URL *ever* actually work?  Will it ever work again?  Is there an alternative PSN Profile page that users can link to right now?

Not sure if the EU ever had a 'public' profile page. The US has one for trophies on their site, but it will work with any PSN account.

So if you go here - http://us.playstation.com/mytrophies/ and enter a PSN name where it says "Get Started" you can view that persons trophies.

So for you this is the link that you could make your signature link go to http://us.playstation.com/publictrophy/index.htm?onlinename=fauxtronic

Also if you're signed in to the US site you can then compare anyone's trophy list with yours.
