PSN purchase complete but download not available

I have recently purchased the latest MW3 expansion pack and the store happily took my money and proceeded to offer a limited amount of download options. The problem is that none of these are applicable to my copy of the game.

I am not presented with the option to download for BLUS-30872... this was not made clear at all when I purchased the service - neither were the limited options that would be available. It was only after money was taken that was made apparent.

I would simply like to be able to use the expansion pack or receive my money back.

Thanks, Ben

Re: PSN purchase complete but download not available

If you live in the UK/EU and imported Modern Warfare 2 from the states, you forfeit the ability to download DLC.

Sony aren't allowed to sell the US version of the game here because of licensing laws in almost all countries, that's why the different versions exist in the first place. DLC is part of the game so must also obey the same laws.

In order to use the content you'll need to buy the right version of the game. As that version of the game isn't available for sale in any of the countries covered by the EU, they don't need to tell you it isn't compatible.

Re: PSN purchase complete but download not available

I appreciate what your saying, however I did not import the game. I worked at Activision on the game and as a result recieved a copy upon launch.

Regardless, I'm now left out of pocket with content I cannot use - I strongly feel as though the PS store should make it clear before purchase that this content will not work. You may know it doesn't work - but I sure didn't and I don't believe it is reasonable to suggest the onus should be upon the user to know which content will and will not work... and now I'm out of pocket and reluctant to use the PS store again.

Is it the opinion of PSN that I should just be left out of pocket?

Re: PSN purchase complete but download not available

A BLUS copy indicates the game is an american copy, so even if you worked there, it's a US version of the game.

Are you suggesting the view of Sony is to expect users to somehow guess at what might work with their games?

Re: PSN purchase complete but download not available

It's within reason for Sony to expect users to understand that when importing games there are likely to be issues. Until the PS3 came along, it was completely impossible to do this as the consoles would display an error and refuse to load the game at all.

Re: PSN purchase complete but download not available

Strangeplaice - do you represent Sony? As this is the only channel I can identifiy to raise this issue - would you be able to suggest a better mechanism to further this complaint?

What the PS3 does with regional discs is moot, the issue is that PSN has sold me something that does not work. There was not an option to check if the purchase would work, without such a mechanism how can I check?

I would agree that it is within reason that compataibilty issues may arise, this is not my complaint. My complaint is that we are not given the opportunity to check - therefore it is not reasonable for a consumer to know what will or will not work.

I maintain I have been left out of pocket and request a refund for this.

'Fraid not. You'd be best calling Customer Support on the relevant number here, though they do tend to refuse refunds unless they've given you the wrong product, or something that doesn't work at all.
