Ps3 says file system corrupted needs to restore (taking ages to download)

Gone to turn my 10year olds ps3 on today and it says files on the system are corrupted needs to restore giving an OK as my only option. It took me ages for it to even load up at first, it's now restoring but only at 3% after 30 mins. It says it will restart after completion. My questions are what has caused this? What can I do if the restore doesn't work? How much would Sony charge to get it fixed as ps3 is 2 years old. Any help/advice would be great fully appreciated, my son is quite upset as he doesn't use it constantly. Many thanks

Re: Ps3 says file system corrupted needs to restore (taking ages to download)

What has caused this? Turning the system off while it's in the middle of saving data to the HDD. HDD failure, they don't last forever.

What can you do if restoring the file system doesn't work? Simple. Buy a new 2.5" HDD. Sony will not fix or replace the HDD.
