Re- downloading movies from PSN if there are console issues.

[ Edited ]

Before I go any further please note I know what a prat i am, so don't reply to this thread with posts stating that i am an idiot because thet won't help me out.

On friday i decided to download a couple of movies from the PSN movie store after the first movie had finished the "finished downloading" message apeared followed by the ps3 crashing. On rebooting the ps3, i found that the hard drive had died. I have tried all the safe mode stuff to get access to the hard drive but ps3 says that the hard drive is nackered and all that can be done is a full format which will result in the loss of all my data. Ahhhhh

I had backed up my photos and some of my films but not since last christmas. So i have lost the 2 fims that i had bought on friday night and nearly 25 films that we have bought since christmas between £200 and £300 worth of film.

Yes i am stupid, firstly for buying films off the PSN movie store and secondly for not backing the films up, I except this so there is no need for you guys to remind me.

I have read on a few sites that if i phone the sony support line they will allow me to redownload my movies, this is goodwill thing and is only allowed once.

Has anyone on here been allowed by sony to do this?

Please use plain text.

You can't back them up.  Once they're on your PS3 HDD, that's where they stay.

Contact Sony, explain the situation and they will release your content for re-download.  If they argue about, the link you posted contains the ammo you need.

Going to phone them after work, the kids are furious with me so i have to get a result.

Just to let you know, you can back them up. There are 2 ways, either do a full back up of the hard drive using the back up facility in the system setup menu or you can back up each indivuduel film by hitting the triangle when the film is highlighted and following the back up instructions. Doing either of these allows you to put the files on an external hard drive and keep safe. If also allows you change your hardrive and fit a new one and then copy the files onto your new hard drive. It will not allow you to put the films on to a different PS3.

I know this because i had backed up my films that i had bought before last christmas and loaded them on to a new harddrive that i fitted to my ps3 yesterday. How stupid am i? i know how to do it but never bothered for 9 months. d'oh.

Just a quick update. Spoke to Sony playstation support, explained the situation they were very helpful passed the case on to the Playstation store support team who emailed me the next day and reset all my films so I could download them again, so I have downloaded them all and made a back up of my hard drive and backed up the back up.

Just so people are aware, if your PS3 breaks or your harddrive goes down and you lose all your movies, don't panic and phone Playstation support and explain, they told me that if you lose your data due to hardware failure they will more than likely (but don legally have to)  let you re-download the movies free of charge.(the more money you have spent the more likely they will do this for you), one point to remember here is if you need a replacement system then you will have to go directly through Sony to get the replacement.

They also said that if you buy a new system and you want to download your movies to it it is worth giving them a call as they may do this for you.
