Region Locking DLC

So I have a game (Dead Rising 2), scoring myself a $30 Network Voucher I decided I wanted to get the Skill Pack DLC for the game.  Buy, downloaded and installed later, I am in the game, and the section where the DLC would appear it wasn't.

After some research I see that unthough games are not region locked, the DLC, (which seems....  well you decide)

So I ask, I have paid for this DLC, alright it cannot work with the game specfically since of coding or whatever, but why cannot I be allowed to download the Region 3 DLC for the game so that what I have paid for I can use? It should be possible,  a one time redirection to downloading the Region 3 DLC so that I can use what I have paid for. Sony would be more than capable of doing so, heck, emailing me the files, I put onto a USB stick and install so that I can, it can't be overally complicated.  Sony can examine my account and see that I have purchased the DLC, i'm not trying to fraud them, I just want what I paid for to work on the game I have.

No where on the game did it say "you have to buy Region 3 DLC for the DLC to work with this game" I just assumed, that If it worked on my PS3 then any DLC would work. Sony Should have made things crystal clear regarding that,

What's the point of unlocked games if the DLC isn't unlocked as well? Do I have to commit fraud make up a fake account sayingI reside in a region 3 Country so that I can get the DLC, (which I would have to pay for again since it would be a new PSN account) It doesn't make sense.

Re: Region Locking DLC

I'm pretty sure it's partly to stop ppl buying games from overseas to bypass ratings etc. Also games from different countries may well have a different version of the game, hence why your dlc may not work. I think a lot of games have the same version worldwide, allowing worldwide dlc download.

Ur just unlucky with ur game choice I'm guessing, but b4 buying the dlc I'm pretty sure if it's only for a certain version, it says.

Heck, if u buy the game from a different country, u can always buy the dlc from their store using an address from that country and buying an gift card online.

Re: Region Locking DLC

Hi Marixman,

I think we've all found out about this the hard way at some point. If you want to talk to Sony about a refund you will have to call their support line and talk to them in person.

In the opinion of many people, including the world bank and the ACCC, region locking goes against free trade and competition but, until governments decide to act on the practice, we are stuck with it.

Most of us only get stung once though. Even in Australian shops you can buy region 1 (USA) games, especially if the games are in very high demand (E.G. the COD series). Every time a new map pack comes out for a COD game we are stormed with forum questions from COD fans about why it won't work with their game. Be careful to check the region of any games you buy unless you don't intend to buy any DLC for them.

Australia is region 4. Look for this symbol on the cover.

Re: Region Locking DLC

Its generally the case that Australian retailers cant sell games that are not supported in the territory, If a retailer in Australia sells you a US copy of a game without stating it is an overseas copy,

You would be within your rights to return it with the receipt in order for them to replace it for a local version that is supported or sometimes the EU equilivent, for example ive noticed GAME will import UK discs such as Tekken 6 and FF XIII.

Other times retailers will explicity state if a game is imported from the US or the UK, like game traders does when goes ahead with gray imports.

I guess most of the time what happens is that someone trades in an imported US copy of game and occasionally the retailer wont checked the game disc ID, then later some poor bugger buys that copy a year later and complains that the dlc pack doesnt work because the retailer didnt check the disc.

The reason why the dlc is not refunded for having the wrong disc id is that SCEA can only support liscensed australian software and that no refund is given as there is no problem with the software/dlc you have purchased

Re: Region Locking DLC

You're not a mod anymore Diamonds?

DLC will work with your store if you buy a BLES game. Doesn't matter if its from NZ, Aus, or the UK. You only strike problems with BLAS or BLUS games.

Re: Region Locking DLC

had the same thing happen with my soul calibur 5. for some idiotic reason the seller sold me a US region game even though its a UK store. made the purchase via amazon. now  i have spent quite a bit of time on it and i am afraid that i will lose all my data if i switch disc region. but i can't access the dlc i paid for. is it possible for my purchase to be transferred to the US playstation store so that i just download it or do i have to get a total refund?

Re: Region Locking DLC

Hi greenlion_leo,

Unfortunately, if your copy of the disc does not match the region for your account, you will be unable to access the DLC if purchased from the PS Store.

We would suggest contacting the retailer for any recourse.

You will not lose any data by using a different region disc either.

Re: Region Locking DLC

Hey man,

I bought Sould Calibur 5 in London (UK version) but my PSN account is US. Would you like to exchange the games?

I live in Brazil. I can send the game to you by mail, then you send your game to me.

Damm region locks! I did the same with Wipeout 2048 for Vita. I cannot use the network pass.
