At the minute I've got the XXL broadband package and am paying £37.25 a month (although it's currently £34.75 on the VM website website) and got this in regards to wanting to downgrade to a cheaper package, sounds like either someone doesn't have a clue or is lying to me, or is it that new customers can only get the 30Mb for £22.50?

We're sorry to hear that you're thinking of downgrading your Broadband
package.

We can confirm that you're subscribed to the Broadband size XXL (up to
100Mb) package. The standard monthly charge for Broadband size XXL
package is £47.25.
As you're getting a monthly discount of £10.00,
you're paying £37.25 for your Broadband package.

You’re in you're in contract with us from the 18th July 2011 to the 17th
July 2012. If you'll downgrade your Broadband package you'll lose your
monthly discount.

Just so you know the standard monthly charge for the Broadband to size
XL (30Mb) package is £38.50.
There is no new contract to downgrade any
of the packages.

We have been with them for years, a week ago rang them up to upgrade from a rubbish 10mb up to the 60mb one. We are getting that and anytime phone-calls for about £38. I think that is including a "loyalty discount" of £3.

I'd ring them up and speak to them, that sounds a bit much unless you are getting all the phone stuff.

I was upgraded to it for 'free', plus it's more than they quote on their website for it too.

Only started out with the 50Mb package, but that's not the point of this thread, I was happy paying what I was paying for the first year. The problem is with the prices I'm being quoted to downgrade.

XL30 is not L30  hence the X in XL.

XL30 will be upgraded to XL60 Mb/s for free later, but if your area has not been speed increased you will still be paying for XL60Mb/s but only getting XL30. 

 

If you want L30Mb/s With no upgade due later in the year, you have to tell them you want L30.

with no X in It.

Before speed upgrades L30 was called L10 now with speed boost its called L30...

Okay, Mister James .... I break this down for you okay :-

 

There are no more 50MB package which is why you got upgrade to 100MB.

50MB was old top package , 100 is the new top package ....

 

You also had deal which was for newbie Virgins which is why you have discounts.

If you change to new package old discount does not apply to new deal ....

 

New deal also for newbie Virgins only and you are no longer a Virgin with Virgin so ..... no deal :(

 

Mahmoud suggests to Mister James :-

 

*Talk to Virgins on the phone.

*Say you want to cancel because if you downgrade it cost you more, and you can't afford current package.

*Listen to the Virgins. They might offer nice deal ....

*Take deal if 5-10 pounds less than current deal.

*Or cancel, it up to you.

 

I also have Virgins media and this all make sense to me. If you cancel, Mahmoud also suggest :-

 

*SAMBA Mobile (free Internet and dongle!)

*Prepay mobile SIM with free 1 year Internet + Dongle (they exist)

*Current mobile data / web contract + Tether feathers or Dongle.

*Sign up for Virgin again at same address with new person so they can get newbie Virgin deal.

Actually this happened me for a while, I was paying more for a lower speed than I would get for the new customer package of the high speed.

 

The 3 week introductory price and the price after are only for new customers.

 

Thats what I was told but they also told me not to panic that an upgrade for me was on the way and would be automatic, and I got upgraded eventually.

 

They said the only way to get the price on the website was to be outside of the 12 month contract and to start a new one.

 

UPC changed all that recently tho, anyone can pick any of their packages online upgrading or downgrading, current or new and it will all be done automatically.

Once your contract has expired just call them and tell them you want the deal on the web site. And if they refuse tell them you're cancelling so you can re-apply and get it.

 

They will have a retention policy that gives you that, but they obviously won't encourage it.

Once your contract expires call them up and ask to be put through to rentions and tell them you are leaving, The will offer you a cheaper deal works everytime. :)

Just off the phone with them, they offered me that deal too :P Took the 60Mb for £22.50 a month, so not too bad a price.

Im not sure, UPC used to do something similliar but now they let you witch to any package on their site even the new ones etc, the price on the site is the price you pay.
