Can someone give me an in depth explanation of the differences between vista basic and premium

Is it really worth sacrificing things like ram, processor etc just to get premium and stay under my budget?

The main differences really are things such as the Aero/Flip 3D effects (look fantastic if you can run it), and then other features such as Media Centre, "premium" games, windows DVD Maker.

Yeah, i would reccomend waiting till 7 if your upgrading, but if youve just build a PC, you need an OS now, so get Vista Home Premium.

I've got basic and you can't watch DVDs, not even with WMP. Well you can if you download the codecs or whatever but out of the box fresh install then not.
