Hi everyone. Does anyone know of any free internet security programs? My Norton trial is running out and I don't want to have an laptop that's not protected.
Ideally, I'd like a good program that does the whole lot (anti-virus, firewall, spyware, phishing, etc). And before you ask I've tryed Googling, but I want to know what some other users would recommend. Most places I've found charge for a package.
Also, I'm running Windows Vista.
Thanks in advance. :smileyhappy:
I use AVG thats free and does the job ;)
nope, you still get automatic updates, but you can't change when it happens. and you can't alter the settings of the e-mail scanner, or turn it off.
Incidentally that's how they make their money as businesses don't really want to have free software on their e-mail signature.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Just to let you know I downloaded avast! for anti-virus after reading some of the reviews and comments on cnet's download.com. I decided to install comodo firewall (even though I previously thoughtthat it wasn't compatibale with vista), but I don't know whether to use a-squared or search & destroy. I think I might go for s&d.
Thanks again everyone.
I have Avg and its nearly always done the job, I did pick up a virus but I tried downloading Lost froma dodgy website. Avast internet security is also high rated I hear.
Doesnt Windows have a built in firewall anyway?
Firewall = Zone alarm/comodo
Anti virus = avast/avg
Anti spyware = spybot search and destory/ad aware.
You can get AVG Internet Security (Firewall, Antivirus, Antspam etc) for free if you use trialpay. Go to the AVG website, and I believe there is a link for it. Choose the brain training offer and as soon as the email from trialpay with your activation code comes through, cancel the brain training from the options menu. I know this works, i've done it :)
Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot fr4gster, I'm trying it now, although I can't find the brain training offer.
EDIT: Don't worry, found it.
here is a download link for AVG free .....
