Journey? I'd rather stay at Home, I mean home!

First let me explain ... I was sooooo looking forward to the new PSN game 'Journey' since way back when I first read about it. It sounded intriguing and just like the 'Myst' series (which I simply adore) that is until a demo arrived in Home. I don't use Home that much these days for various reasons but, because this demo was now a space in 'Home' I thought I would give it whirl so to speak, I was looking forward to it actually!

What a disappointment! I've spent hours running around a sand blasted environment trying to 'unlock its secrets' in supposedly real time. Nothing has happened, NOTHING. All I can see that can be done is to walk up to five pillars sticking out of the ground which by some reason turn white when you get near them ... that's it! Is it?

There is nothing else that I can see which can be interacted with ... nothing! All the other folk I have spoken to down there have said the same, or similar things ... "what we supposed to do" or, "nothing to do here" or worse "this is boring."

What a terrible advertisement for a new and upcoming title! I cannot see many units being sold if this demo is truly representative of the real game? I am having second thoughts myself about buying it now.

I mean to say, if you create a puzzle game (which this obviously is) then leave some tangible clues so that the (everyman/woman) can latch onto it and have something to strive for in solving the riddles, there is nothing there - just pillars and more pillars and bigger pillars and even bigger bigger pillars!

Has anyone here tried it out yet? I would be very keen to learn how you got on.

Sony .... are you sure?

:Stupid:

Thank you for your observations regarding my manner and general behaviour when engaging in forum talk. Personally speaking, I (this is an 'I' statement everyone!) try to maintain a level head although, I sometimes fall from grace - but the important thing is that I try.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your comment, but like I said - I will reserve judgement until I actually play the real game.

Quite a few conflicting opinions it seems with this title.

If you loved the beta I assure you you'll love the full game. It can be short depending on how strong your want to explore and take your time is, but I've played it more than once because of that. That and I wanted to unlock some patterns and something else I won't spoil. It's awesome :)

"now as for the playstation home space it is definitely not like the actual game... the space is rather odd".

Hello 'ShadowGodd' and thank you for replying - and for the info.

Although, what I have read and seen regarding the game is as more or less what you have stated here, the space in Home tells you that your environment changes before your eyes in real time - can you unlock the secrets?

Errm ... no 'I' cannot because there is nothing to do other than walk up to five pillars and turn them white.

I am glad to learn - as you state, that it is nothing like the real game.

I will reserve judgement and wait to see if when the game is released .. they allow a downloadable demo.

You made me laugh with your initial thread and counter-replies to what people said to what you had said orignally. Here is what I put in my thread:-

I appreciate the novelty remit of this game is that you are supposed to find strangers also playing the game and together you overcome the various obstacles to unlock trophies & gain powers etc., &progress through the game. That might be thatgamecompany's lefty-social twee asperations for gamers, but what is PS3 Home mini-game version's aims.So far I've been rewarded with that annoying flying carpet, which I quickly deactivated and I also have that monstrosity of an ornament in my apartment (has anyone managed to get it on the balcony by the way?) I noticed some people have managed to float in mid air, how pray have they managed to accomplish that? But what I really want to know, is when do you know that you have done all that you can do on this mini-game version? Every other minigame I've played on Home has clear tutorials and you know when you've succeeded etc

Hello and thank you for taking the time to respond to my thread.

The space in Home I found very misleading in description and objective - hence my initial confusion. I do not use Home that much anymore and so my expectations had been somewhat altered by it too.

Once I got the game though, I loved it to bits! I know and appreciate that it might not be everyone's 'cup of tea,' but that's what makes life, as with the 'Journey' so diverse ... wouldn't you agree?

Never use PS Home to evaluate a 'normal' game, unless the game you're evaluating happens to be 'Trolling 2012 - The Square Gang'.
