Letterland "X" always controversial

To those that don't know, Letterland was introduced in schools some years ago, to help young children learn the alphabet. I have no idea if it worked but it seems to be still around today.

In the letterland system, each letter is anthropomorphised. Some of the innocuous characters are Annie Apple, Clever Cat etc.

Having created numerous safe characters, you would think they would keep it safe when creating a character, for a letter that has sexual connotations. When it came to "X" however, the characters become somewhat controversial.

Initially we had this:

This character was know as the "Kissing Cousins" :O An incestuous character such as that was controversial, so they decided to change the character into something safer.....

This is the new character they introduced  They went from one controversial character to one that looks like he is being censored for "flashing".

People are constantly complaining about education standards falling and society becoming less and less idyllic. Maybe the problem is caused by our education system being designed by people that can't see something so obvious being inappropriate.

It's puzzling how some people think those pictures are appropriate in the first place.

It looks to me like K is for King, but X is for black people. Either way, here in the UK the education minister is a journalist... somebody who has no experience whatsoever in education. But he so happens to be "one of the boys" in the Tory world and so he got the job by default. A similar thing has probably happened in Ireland.
