Tesco are doing the 12GB model for £120 Boxing Day one day offer only. I know it's only 12GB add a 1TB HDD and caddy from Amazon it works out cheaper than the 500GB model.

I was just looking up about how to connect an external hard drive to the ps3 before I saw this as I found an article saying Game will have a 12 gb ps3 + a game for £125 tomoz too :p

Seems a little compllicated getting the external to work for the ps3 but I'll figure it out lol. Beats paying over the odds prices for a PS3 with inbuilt storage :p

External drive wont work for games and game data installs. The only way is installing a compatible 2.5 sata hardrive or opt for a 500GB model or older slim model. .

Ahh right the article I read made it seem like you could save games on there too. Heres the link. if you wanna read it.

Think I'll start off with just a 500 GB hardrive tho and if I need more room later on I will get a larger drive :)

This is the one I think I'll get.

I'm guessing there will be some vids on youtube showing how to switch out the hardives so I'm not going in to it blind lol xD

External HDD's are fine for full system back ups when upgrading your current HDD. They are also fine for music, video, photo and save data back ups just not game data.

Personnally for an extra £20 i would go for the 1TB drive i linked above. I have been a PS+ member since june last year i am hammering the space on my 1TB. I don't even own a Vita yet so a 1TB HDD would be handy for managing Vita content memory cards are sooo expensive.

I had a launch 60gb for years and even 60gb was no way large enough. I can't imagine what 12gb would be like. Especially as a PS+ subscriber. I'd definitely either upgrade the HD or go for the bigger HD out the box...

Hi guys,

My ps3 has been dead since May...i.e. It has overheating problem...everytime I switch it on - a message instantaneously pops up saying ''the system is overheating, please turn off''.

I had a 2 yr warranty with PSpros...but, those jokers have gone bust.

I was wondering whether its worth purchasing a ps3 now amid rumours that ps4 may be coming out soon. Also, my current ps3 is the fat original one. Is there any advantage the slim one has over the fat one...apart from external features?...

Much appreciated,

Thanks

just found a laptop that is no longer used and that has a 250 gig hard drive that will be fine with the

ps3 so i might just use that till I fill it up. Or maybe even stick the 250 gig hard drive in it and try flog it on ebay for a profit and buy another for myself lol.

I don't know what you people do with your PS3s.

I've had a 60gb since launch and I still have 10gb free even without deleting the unnecessary stuff!

They probably play games on it. It doesn't take that many installs, game data, patches, DLC etc. to fill up 60GB. :)

Play games on it...?

If a game wants to install (and I would rather it did to preserve the BR drive and reduce load times) it can be anywhere from 1 to 6 GB. Games from the store tend to be 0.5-2 GB, and with PS+ there are a lot of those. Plus patches, DLC, trailers...

I personally wouldn't go near a 12 GB PS3 - I can't even understand why they would bother putting out such an SKU. I guess if you just wanted a BluRay player...? Everybody's Golf, with install data, patches and DLC, weighed in at 6 GB for one title.

Who'da thunk it??

I guess I just have far fewer games than most people; I try to limit my time on PS3 or I'd just go on for hours and hours and hours... :smileyvery-happy:

It will work out cheaper if I buy a 12 GB console and buy a bigger hard drive separately, there is no way I'd keep the 12 GB hard drive in it lol. Like the vita I have a 8 GB card in there atm but it is no where near enough but I refuse to pay the prices they are asking so I gotta keep rotating... which can get quite tedious :/

I'm not a great expert in it, but I think you might need to watch the speed, although solid state should work, the benefit is questionable. Too much speed on a non-solid state might generate too much heat...

But please don't just take my word for it - Google around it. It's well documented :)

Good luck!

5400rpm recommended some say higher speed HDD's are held back by the systems OS, so 7200rpm and SSD drive's are probably a waste of money. Also check the drive's size dimensions some 1TB drive's won't physically fit, it has to be 10 x 7 x 0.9 cm (100 x 70 x 9mm).

I got the updates done and I went to go to the PS Store and had to 'sign up' I chose the use existing account option and enter my info but now it  is asking for the card details that are on my account :/

The only time I have used a card was when I borrowed my mates one time so I have no idea what it is :/ I usually just buy the PSN cards from game :/ I dont want to be bothering my friend either as I know they are visiting family today so is there any way to remove the card info from my account?

Try deleting any card info auto funding details etc from your PSVita account management first?
