They are sought after for their high quality.

"The bass was way tighter, the midrange and highs were far well defined and sound staged than his rivals."

I had one of them, it was my first PS1, think it cost £199.99.

I sold it for next to nothing a few years back at a car boot, the person who bought it must have been an audiophile because the only reason he bought it was because of the red and white audio sockets.

Just had a quick look on the internet and apparently the CD playback from them is of a very high quality so now I wish I had kept it but at the time I didn't know.

The only problem with mine was that you had to place it upside down so cut scenes didn't freeze or skip.

I loved my PS1

But, I didn't love it that much that in the year 2011 I would be playing CD's on it still.

That's...weird.

i think i will get one of the SCPH-1002 ones just to add to my retro console collection, but i think i will hook it upto my Sony DAV-S800 5.1 home cinema system amp. (simply because the stupid thing wont play cd's with out skipping).

i already have one of the big original Playstations. the model number is SCPH-9002.
i also have a mini ps1 packed away somewhere.

My old PSX definitely has those composite connections. Never knew there were models that were any different.

got my SCPH-1002 today.
it plays games fine, but wen i pop a music cd in and go to the cd player, it dunt load the cd. i have to open the lid and pop it back down for it to read. and sometimes the music skips.

could this be because its a copy CD-R?

other than tht, the sound quality is amazing.
