Hi Signie15,

Yes the PSP E1000 is compatible with remote play.

To setup remote play try the following:

1.)    Connect the PSP to the PS3 using a USB cable.

2.)    From the PSP systems home menu select ‘Settings’ then select ‘USB connection’

3.)    From the PS3 systems home menu select ‘Settings’ then ‘Remote Play Settings’

4.)    Select ‘Register Device’

5.)    Confirm that a USB connection has been established between the PSP system and PS3 system then select ‘OK’

Please note that if you register a PSP system that has already been registered with another PS3 system, the registration with the first PS3 system will be cleared.

If you receive any error messages or get stuck, let us know where you are having any issues.

I thought the E1000 didn't have any wifi? Does it even have a network menu (because that's where you find the Remote Play option)? It really doesn't look like it from reading The Manual

Unfortunately I can't find that error in the usual place.

What do you mean? No update is going to give wifi to the E1000.

Hi Signie15,

The error code you are receiving is a bit of an oddball.  Let us see how we can assist you to get your remote play functions working.

A few steps to try:

Make sure the PSP is charged (Around 70% charge at least)

Try a secondary USB cable

If possible try a second PSP or perhaps a second PS3 system. (If you have friends with hardware that you can try out)

When connecting the PSP and PS3, try leaving the power adapter connected to your PSP

Try restoring PSP to default settings. (Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings)

Let us know if you are still having issues with remote play.

Here is a link to another thread on a similar topic

Error-when-trying-to-connect-PS3-to-PSP

Why do you need WiFi for Remote Play?

The manual says:

Remote play is a feature that displays the PS3™ system screen on a PSP™ system to enable remote operation over a wireless LAN.

Since the only way to get to Remote Play on a PSP is through the network menu, and the E1000 hasn't got one, I would say that the E1000 doesn't support remote play.

I'm guessing that "There was a error when registering device ( 8003131D)" is related to the fact that the PSP E1000 doesn't have a MAC address.

Here's another one but it never got a reply.

Things you can do with remote play on a PSP (that has WiFi):

  • Look at most XMB menus and the internet
  • Watch PlayTV
  • Access media (music, pictures and non copy protected video)
  • Access video chat (although if you actually start up a video chat no one can see you because you're not there).
  • Play one or two games. (There are very few games you can actually play remotely.)

There is no reason to use remote play when you're close enough to your PS3 to connect via a USB cable. You can just use a DS controller or BD remote for that. The PSP has never been useable as an extra controller.

While it's an interesting feature Remote Play isn't really that useful (I mostly use it as a smart remote control for when I'm listening to music in another room).

The PSP E1000 is a low cost, hand held, personal game console. It's low cost because it doesn't have WiFi or all the features you used to get with a PSP.

If you want all that, Sony would prefer you to buy a Vita.

I would prefer it if the Vita was a personal, hand held PS3.

Hey guys,

Really quick answer to this question:

Remote play works on a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) signal between your PS3 and PSP.

PSP E1000 does not have a WLAN reciever so cannot be used for remote play

The reason it does not have a WLAN receiver is due to the fact the E1000 is a "street" model, which means it's scaled down in terms of specs.

Which is why it can be sold at a lower price point than the classic PSP

Hope I answered your questions. Sorry it took a while

Yon
