Error code when formatting memory stick

2 Replies 4,912 Views Created 15-04-2010

I have bought an official Sony memory stick pro duo mark 2 for my PSP 3003 and tried to format it but the message I get is:- Format Failed (80220089)

Any Ideas what the code number is?

Re: Error code when formatting memory stick

Yep, it means that the card is corrupted. However, there is another possibility, do you trust the supplier of the card? If it's a fake then the same code will be presented. You could put the card in to a PC and format it to FAT 16 and see if it will work afterwards.

Re: Error code when formatting memory stick

the error code is infact a corrupted memory card error. it seems strange that the error message is happening on a new card so the best thing to do is find out if the card is a fake or not by checking the status of the MagicGate. if it says MagicGate supported its a genuine card and just needs formatting via the PC first. if it says MagicGate unknown or unsupported then its a fake and needs sending back to the seller/retailer.
