Due to the inability to back up the save file, which is copy protected. (sigh).
I have 2 ps3s,1 upstairs & 1 down.I usually swap save files between the 2,where possible.(& no,i'm not paying for £40 for the privalige,where its not).
Anyway, having completed the career mode and some of the time attack.I decided it would be better to continue upstairs, seeing as i spend so much time on time attack modes.I can play in peace up there.
Only problem is,i would have to unlock everything again, due to not being able to copy the save file - no problem i thought,i would just do it all again, wouldnt take me too much time, now i'm used to the game.
Which it didnt. So i continued trying to beat my best times.
Whats the problem,i hear you ask? - Well, its a MASSIVE problem for the scoreboards.
Simply because,if you start from scratch it continues to add DRIVER POINTS to the leaderboards. So you can basically keep doubling your driver points by deleting your save game or playing on another Ps3.(driver points are calculated by the top times in the game)
Which means you can keep going infinitely,if you so wish - It not only adds points again in career mode, but also time attacks modes.
Rather stupidly i deleted bang bang racing from the ps3 downstairs (small HDD) - So now basically i'm screwed leader boards wise.Simply because ive amounted a huge score (that would be impossible, without this glitch). And if i keep playing time attack ,its going to keep getting, bigger & bigger.
I suppose i will soon start getting message on my ps3 calling me a cheat etc..
If i do i will just point out its SONYs (cp saves) & the developers fault for not letting us back up our save game.
Looking at the leaderboards,it obvious that other players have discoverd the same thing.
Again,SONY - Why,oh why do we have to suffer these damn copy protected saves?
Maybe someone should start at sticky thread, showing any games that use copy protected save.?.They cause nothing but problems for the end user (if not on plus)

Being subscribed to plus wouldn't have solved your problem anyway, because you have to wait 24 hours before accessing a copy-protected save (I think). But it's probably worth pointing out that the cloud isn't all you get for your £40/year. Especially with June's line up of free stuff.
But meh - keep making your life difficult in order to stick it to the corporation (even though it's the developers that choose to make saves protected - Sony just provides the mechanism).

You can manually copy saves to and from the cloud.
I agree that it's not enough alone to justify subscribing to PS+. But I'm speaking as a one-PS3 customer. I guess it's worth more if you have multiple consoles.

I know - but there is a limitation on copy-protected saves, and I think the limitation is not accessing it within a 24 hours period of upload. Which doesn't help if you just want to upload it downstairs then download it upstairs 5 minutes later.

I'm aware, tthats not all you get on plus. But for me ,its just not worth the money.
Ive been a ps3 owner since launch, own well over 100 PSN titles,so i have most whats on offer on plus anyway - And i'm not interested in free themes.
As for the offers on plus - They usually appear in sales through the year anyway for non plus users & i dont mind waiting.
The thing that annoys me about these "protected saves" ,is that they are not protected if your on plus anyway, you can back them up.So whats the point in protecting them in the 1st place?
i cant see why we cant backup all of our saves & restore them to the same profiles. If saves are locked to a user profile, nobody else can use them. They do this with PSN store purchases, why not saves?......Ofcourse SONY wont get £40 a year then.
As i said before, they cause nothing but issues for the end user - If a save gets corrupted or your ps3 fails.Or your have more than one ps3 .....
Certain developers have released patches for games that have had protected saves - To remove the protection from saves - This proves they are not popular & i fail to see the reason behind their existance.
I tend to avoid ANY game that uses them,if possible - Sadly, ive been caught out in my last 2 purchases.
Super hang & Bang Bang Racing.
Ive also lost very valuable, time trail ghosts from 1 certain game in past, due to ps3 failure, long before PS+.What friggin purpose does protecting my time trail ghosts achieve?.except doing my head in?.
Sorry for the rant - But these things infuriate me.

If you don't mind waiting, most PSN games get offered free through PS+ eventually anyway, so it actually is worth the money. Although I'm still waiting for From Dust to appear...

So that they can't be offloaded onto a PC and hacked, be it for trophies, leaderboards or onlnie advantages. Or even maybe stop prevent fraudulent DLC access. I very much doubt "to annoy Tooms" was factored into the design process.

That's unfairly cynical - protected saves were around longer than PS+, and it's been shown you get a lot more that access to the cloud. Plus, £40 a year isn't exactly a lot... Isn't that what you pay on XBox for the ability to even play multiplayer?

Exactly - it's a developer specific choice to use protected saves, so ranting at Sony serves little purpose. It's not like Sony are insisting that all saves are protected. What they could do though, is assert that games should state if they use copy-protected saves or not and let the market speak for itself.

Fair point.
But why are a lot (most) of games not protected then?..Cant these be hacked as well?.I own almost 200 ps3 games.Only a very small minority of my collection have copy protected saves. And most of these have scoreboads & DLC.
Like i said,i fail to see the point of them.If hacking was the reason, all games would be protected, surely?
And yes,the fella at SONY who came up with these should get a slap. And ANY developer that uses the stupid things.
And no,i'm not paying for plus, because i think its a waste of money. And with a young family i cant justify it ,just to copy my saves.(and £40 is a lot to me - Its the reason i stopped xboxlive).

I don't think all game saves can be hacked. It all boils down to how well the coding security is. Unfortunately some devs chose the easy/lazy option and copy protect them.
Activision should take note and either code their save data files better or copy protect them COD games are rife with online modding.
I think if devs insist on locking saves they should provide backup to their own servers not the PS+ cloud.

Yeah, that's a good idea.
