was thinking as the snooker league was a bit hit and miss when it came to getting people in on thursday night. we could run it a bit like the fifa football league where people have 1 week to play against each other. then on wednesday night we could play all together the games that allow more than 2 players. killer, for example. i can't remember if there were any other forms of pool that allowed for more than 2 players.
thoughts?

I think Rossy's experience with the FIFA league would be good to take advantage of.
Which form of pool would you be looking to compete in - 8-ball, 9-ball, continuous (14:1)?

i'll be honest QW and i can't remember the different forms of pool. but we could do one week of 8 ball, next week 9 ball. with the meet ups playing 3 or more player games... wait can't we play 8 ball with 3 or more players? my memory is going - give me something from behind the bar to freshen it up.
on a side note, 20 minutes left of the sound of music. i. can. do. it.....

I'd have thought if you were going to have a cup, it's best to stick to one format and play it out. Or alternate formats from time to time, but only after a cup/league has been completed.
8-ball comes in two main variants, US and UK, and is a strictly two-player game because each player gets one set of balls (stripes and solids or reds and yellows) and must pot all of them then the black.
9-ball is a two-player game in which each player tries to pot the 9-ball first, but the cue-ball must strike the lowest numbered ball on the table first - so typically you end up trying to pot all the balls in sequence anyway unless a lucky plant happens to present itself.
Killer is a multi-player game in which each person takes a shot in turn, trying to pot a ball, any ball.
14:1 continuous (straight) pool is a favourite of mine in which you can pot any ball - each counts as one point - and it's the first to 30 points who wins. That can be played with any number of players, but 2-player probably works best.

cheers! yeah a cup or some form of league. i haven't really thought this through a lot. i was only talking to rossy today about finishing off the snooker league and then remembered we talked about getting a pool competition going. i really can't put too much time and thought into the pool league until rene and i finish with the poker tournament, which is mid-may. still that gives us 1 month to thrash out an idea and get it up and running.
a concern i do have is if we run the pool cup (for want of a better name) here in the pub then it will almost take over the whole thread and that might not be a good idea. thoughts?
