Q-Games have developed a series of games for the PSN store under the name PixelJunk. The series started off with PixelJunk Racers, and have since created PixelJunk Eden, PixelJunk Monsters and the most recent, PixelJunk Shooter.
All the PixelJunk games are original ideas, that are simple to play, and feel familar to one another. They are also all in 2D style, but 1080p HD quality, which makes them all visually delightful.
Most of us have at least downloaded one of their games off the PSN Store, how many and which ones do you own?
I'm very interested to know which one is your favourite and the reasons that make it so. I personally love PixelJunk Eden, the gameplay is really great and the design is very well thought out. Although at times the game has me filling up with rage as I hopelessly fall and miss all the branches all the way down, but I suppose that's my own doing.
Just when you think you are getting comfortable with how everything works in the game, the designer throws a spanner in the works with new enemies or even new physics such as the gravity shifting. It does however make the game very compelling, and the sound is really rather funky too.
I love the way the visuals all change when you collect another Spectre, and this alone makes it an addictive game for me.
Anywho to refresh your memory of all the PixelJunk games, I've given a brief description of each one:
PixelJunk Racers is if it isn't obvious already, a racing game. It has an aerial overview of the entire track that the player races on in various different modes from chasing and hitting a particular car to avoiding cars at an ever increasing speed.
PixelJunk Monsters is quite an intriguing original puzzle game, in which the objective is to prevent the enemy from reaching your base by building defence towers along their path to stop them from killing the creatures. If all the creatures die, then its game over. Towers can have various different abilities from long range fire to rapid fire. As the enemy dies they drop coins, which can be used to upgrade and research new towers.
PixelJunk Eden is rather unique game. The player controls a small creature that can swing and jump onto and across structures that are rather plant-like. It's quite a bizarre game to describe, but you have to collect "pollen" to help grow more plant-like structures so your little character (not sure what it is lol) can reach the "Spectre". Gaining Spectre's is pretty much the point in the game. The more Spectre's you gain, the more levels you unlock.
PixelJunk Shooter is not a shooter in the sense of shoot 'em ups, it's a game that the player controls a ship and must rescue various people who are trapped. The "shooter" part comes into the game, by the fact that you can use the ship's missiles to destroy parts of the environment or defeat enemies to help get to where the people need rescuing.

I have all but Racers, and love them all for different reasons. As for my favourite, that's a tough one...
I love tower defence games, and PJM is the best on the store (and one of the best I've played).
PJE is great for co-op play (I never got to try PJM co-op, but I hear that's good too). Saving a mate from a fall is superb.
PJS has fantastic fluid dynamics as well as being a homage to a classic genre (check out me playing with the fluid - but spoiler warning: it also includes the final boss).
One of the best things about PJ games is the fact that they actually bother to implement the YouTube record/upload feature. I really wish more games would do this. But with or without that, I avidly await PJ5 ![]()

Never tried co-op on PJE, I'm a bit selfish when it comes to gaming at home. Do you save a mate from falling by swinging like you do when catching pollen? I'm a bit confused how it will work co op. What if ya go separate ways? does it make it split screen?
Oh and PJ5?

Yeah you swing out as per normal, and if he hits your worm-thing you stick together. It takes a bit of skill to aim properly.
The game is always on one screen - it (sort of) keeps the screen with the highest player, vaguely.

Monsters is the best game. It's the cheapest, and by far the most addictive. Its easily the grwatest tower defence game ever created, and with oodles of charm. Shooter is excellent but too short, Eden is amzing but unforgiving, and racers is a bit basic for me

Another nice thing about the Pixeljunk games is that they're compatible with Remote Play. ![]()
I guess my favourite is probably Pixeljunk Shooter, although they're all pretty good. I'd like Eden more if it didn't assault my sense the way it does.. something about the music and level design makes me feel ill. ![]()
