Am I right in assuming that you are too young to remember it the first time around, in the arcades?

It's one of the best arcade games ever made. I think it's a solid version of it.

It does seem to have a lot of fans.

I'm a huge fan of arcade games - Started in 1979 on space invaders & galaxian, scramble etc.

I stopped paying acarde games around 1988,when i stopped going on holiday with my parents - So this game, which was released in 1991 is actually after my time.:smileytongue:

I would love to see more compilations of old arcade games - Because the only way to play them now is by emulation on the PC etc - And the legality of this is pretty cloudy.

As is the playing emulated games of old computers/consoles.

Going back to my post about the price - I was going by the price that was on the blog, which was £10.

I see on the store its now £8 - While still not great, its better.

It's an excellent port of it in the sense that they haven't messed around with it at all.

This and the '89 turtles arcade game that was on xbox live are two of my favourite ever arcade games.  In 2000 I even went to the effort of buying the arcade board of the turtles arcade game just so I could play it. Always wanted to get the simpsons board as well but never got around to it as it was always too expensive/hard to track down.

I bought this on xbox anyway for 800 points because it works out cheaper and I love it.

I find it funny when people say of these arcade game that they are "too short", "combat is too simple", "too easy to complete"..... 'totally missing the point' is the phrase that most readily springs to my mind.

Re: The Simpsons Acrade

If it wasn't free I wouldn't have bothered! My only memory of this first time around was a couple of credits worth of play on holiday one year. Don't think it will be revisited much after the next day or so!

I'm guessing its not easy to complete with one credit? - Does it have infinite continue's?

Not played this  - But if its anything like every other arcade game ive played ,i bet it hard as nails with 1 credit.

The reason i played (and continue to play) arcade games is because of the hi-score challenge.Using continues completly ruins these games in my opinion.

I dont think ive ever used a continue, either in a real arcade or via MAME.

It would definitely be challenging to complete with one credit, but based on a run today just to scope out the latter bosses it's not impossible. the game is highly vulnerable to flying-kicks and attacking out of the plane of danger applies heavily on lots of bosses.

I play a lot of shoot-em-ups, mainly bullet-hell arcade ports on the 360 (as below) which I have to import and play on an imported 360 as well. Game like this get scathing reviews from people when they get localised because they are 'too easy to complete' (with infinite continues :smileyindifferent: )

These are skilled players making very diffcult sections look easy

I think there are people who realise that the challenge is to 1CC these games, and those that don't.

Thought so.

The only arcade game ive completed on one credit is paperboy - And thats on easy way.

I have championship sprint off the store - It a great old arcade game. But the leaderbaords are completly ruined because it allows continues.

Not a major issue for most games - But it carries the score over when you continue, making it possible to get huge scores because you can carry on forever - Making the scoreboards pointless.:Stupid:

Incredible oversight by the developers.
