Apologies for the incredible lateness, but with me moving, and then being out multiple nights and college, the WGD wasn’t that big a priority… but never fear, the discussion’s here ![]()
Another favourite of mine… but as is the usual case, I have a very acquired taste, and there is literally next to nothing out on the interwebs about this game… so bear with me…
To be honest, there’s not only a lack of facts about the game, there is a real lack of a game to actually comment on…. But, that’s part of its charm, and why I still think it’s one of the best bargains on PSN
I’m very much the local multiplayer/party gamer, and Tank Battles/Battle Tanks is certainly a brilliantly simple execution of this formula. Essentially you have your standard twin stick or multidirectional shooter controls, gameplay and graphics, but knitted into this tight little bundle of awesome.
The 4 models of tanks, is just something to overlook, the distinguishing feature on the ‘battlefield’ will be the team colours… but that’s where the game really shines, not in the customisable department, but in the actual gameplay. There are 50 levels spread over 4 environments, each with their own unique charm and dangers, or design from the standard box arena in the countryside, to a mine riddled industrial area, to some epic conveyor themed military maps. Add in powerups hidden in boxes that give you a flamethrower, or homing missiles, or a shield amongst other things and you have a formula for a game that keeps on giving.
You can set your lives, the time the game lasts for, which if reached, sends down a volley of airstrikes to speed the final up a bit… even if the game is already franticly fun enough. The only real fault I’ve found with the game was that online play has been dead from the outset. And… well, that’s it really. Whilst the game itself is really small, it’s got an endless longevity as a pick up and waste time kind of game, aswell as having customisable XMB music.
Graphics: 8 Because of the nature of the game, you can’t really make it look bad… but it genuinely looks gorgeous for a family themed shooter of its calibre.
Sound: 7 Standard military themed music throughout… but even that has a certain charm to it. And I game you can expect the explosions and bangs normally heard throughout gaming history
Multiplayer: 8.5 Online play might be hard to come across, but whenever you can get multiplayer going, online or off, you are sure to have a whale of a time, but even bots can come in handy if needs be.
Fun Factor: 7.5 It’s fun. I doubt anyone has ever played it for more than 2 hours straight though… but it’s the perfect game in between games.
The Other: 5 Gameloft have given it a spot on there website, but that’s all they’ve offered up, apart from a pretty XMB backdrop.
Final score: 7.5-8 (That score is extremely high, and you should take no notice of it… but it is one of the most gameable games about)
So, tell me forum… what’s your opinion on Tank Battles? Are you one to impulse buy anything with colourful military vehicles? Maybe you nabbed it whilst it was cheap? Or are you not going to talk to me because I was late

hey hey
iirc it was only 49p or some weird and wacky price at one point. Thats when i bought it.
Played it for a bit, havent played it since. Most of the "fun" is multiplayer and me and my son battled it out but it gets old very fast.
Worth a punt at £1 but i would struggle to pay over that or even recomend it.

I think, in one sitting the game can start to make your brain go numb rathr quickly, as although there is plenty of variety in the 'arenas' ... essentially they are a square, with a cross section in the middle, made out of different dynamic or static materials.
....But it's one of the few games on PSN I can easily just, jump back into whenever I feel like it, and that's the mark of a good game to me.
