Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

Hmmm...just noticed that the OP has a trailer embedded in it now. I thought we were getting Brutal Deluxe. Hopefully Evolution can retain the quality, becuase the one on PSOne didn't...

Still, fingers X'ed :smileyhappy:

EVERY rerelease or remake of Speedball 2 has NOT captured the feel of the original...I shall wait with baited breath...

Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

If it turns out to be as good as the original I'll be happy. Shame that you can't play the minis on PS3 over the internet, that would keep me and my brothers occupied for a really long time (like it did in the 90's).

Hope they don't over price it just because of the nostalgia factor though.

I think this is down to the d-pad analog sticks. The 360 version (now removed) was identical in retro mode - Except for the problem of modern day controllers (for this type of game)

I play it via an emulator on my PC - Sadlly ive only got a ps2 type controller. And it doesnt fell right playing the original with a d-pad or analog stick.Same with a lot of joystick controlled AMIGA games unfortunatly.

Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

I used to play it on Megadrive, so a d-pad is perfect nostalgia for me.

Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

To be honest, I only posted this as Speedball 2 is one of my top ten most favourite games of all time. I played it on the Atari ST so I am more used to playing it with a Quickshot joystick rather than a joypad.

If I do want to play an accurate version of the old game though, I sometimes put on the Megadrive version of the game. Plus I have access to the 360 remake of the game, though that version sucked the soul out of the game with its generic menus. I don't think it;s even on the marketplace any more.

Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

[ Edited ]

I fancied a quick go of the original Amiga game, but as my Amiga is buried in a cupboard, I tried it under emulation (a copy of my Amiga's harddrive, no less) with a USB Competition Pro. The retro-styled microswitched joystick does a very nice job but I don't think the emulation can quite deliver the perfect experience. At least, that's the only reason I can think of that Revolver beat Brutal Deluxe by 42 to 22. :smileytongue:

Now if that USB joystick would only work with the PS3... (disappears to try something, very very optimistically...)

...W00T!

Ahem. OK, I hereby now start the petition for the developers of the Speedball 2 Evolution mini to include a classic mode that supports d-pad input and maps all of the facebuttons to the 'fire' button in the old configuration. Or at least lets you configure your controls. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: [minis] Speedball 2 Evolution

To be honest, if this mini works with my MadCatz SF4 TE stick I would be happy enough. It's not quite the old joystick I had 20 years ago but it will do.
