Yep - reliablity seems to be a major issue this generation. (some worse than others).
If i didnt love gaming so much,i would have chucked the towel in by now (3 ps3s,3 360s).

Just finished recent update and got my welcome pack a week or 2 ago, downloaded infamous and deadnation, went to play deadnation this eve and ylod turn off console gave it 3 hours switched it back on and it seemed fine, stuck in a dvd to watch and ylod except now even after leaving it a couple of hours still ylod. The system is the old fat 80 gb had it now for 4 years so not complaining but if it is due to a recent update then Sony is responsible.

heres my fault history
40gig ,
blu ray drive went after 4 months, replaced under warranty
replacement was ok for 14 months then blu ray went again, went the d.i.y route got a blu ray drive off internet and replaced it following youtube video, (highly recommended)
ok for another 14 months then ylod 2 weeks ago, went d.i.y again and reworked the solder using a heatgun (youtube), back online![]()
just got ylod again, gutted, so my playstation is field stripped again waiting for me to take it to work to re-run the solder again.
I would strongly advise you to try these fixes with old out of warranty ps3's,
the ylod is a doddle to do and costs a few quid and 20mins of your time and there are some really high quality videos on youtube showing you how to do it. dunno how namny more times i;ll get away with it but what have i got to lose.
(after all im only doing what sony would charge me £135 and 28 days to do)
The blu ray fix is a little trickier and the replacement is about £50 but still worthwhile imo
Good luck

i am outraged at this ylod matter ,, i spend my hard earned money on a ps3 and then it brakes because it was not made properly ,, sony should replace all the old ps3 that got ylod as it is there fault completly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
