I doubt its a faulty machine. There are to many occurrences of the problem. It more than likely software based in which the Vita works. It's probably a firmware update away. The mods on here have said they have passed it on, Sony can't say anything apart from they are aware, which has been noted by the mods. I'm sure once they work out the issues they will let people know.

I think people might be over panicking a bit here. It's highly likely to be a software issue.

Yep my Wi-fi version isn't working either for maps or near?

It keeps saying that it could not identify my location and give an error code  (C2-13396-2)

I'm hoping they'll patch it soon. Unless I need to fiddle with my router settings?

I've emailed playstation support and I'm awaiting a response.

Right I've factory reset mine, then turned off Bluetooth, went outside (only a wifi model but thought I'd try, still connected to wifi) and to my amazement it works!!!!!

I have restored my vita 3 times so now my brand new vita seems to me an old piece of sh*t

Why the hell are Sony not saying any thing or doing any thing about this? I got my wifi vita on Wednesday and i still cant get the damn near or maps to work

How many people have tried adding their home location to skyhook? I suspect that's where the issue is with Wi-Fi units. Also be aware that it may take up to a week for the update to be complete.

Go outside people and it will work. I know is a pain but just do it!
