Hi All

Im also having the same problem in St Andrews.  NEAR never worked from the start, cant obtain data for location.  I added my mac address to skyhook two days ago so will keep checking.  It would be good if this is the problem that the Vita advise you to do this first.

i allready lost faith that near will ever work.. allmost 1 month after launch and no official response from playstation!? i'm very desapointed... i'm geting more answers from the guys of skyhook (CEO and etc...) than from playstation! shame on you guys...

Tried everything from resets to formats, to diferent iSPs, registering with skyhook (and it has already processed my adress, it shows up on the coverage area), inside, outside. So far NEAR hasn't worked a single time.

Updating my location around dozen times a day still didn't do it. I can't get rid of corrupted data in my near. I really hope you're progressing on the case.

Dont work here either. I live near Durham in the NorthEast and it tells me I am in Lancaster at the other side of the country. Which if I do a speedtest.net this is the data station (or whatever they are) it uses.

PS Helpline said I had to phone Netgear to unrestrict it or something. The router is way out of guarentee and they will have nothing to do with it. 

So I baisicly just got told to do one..

Tis a joke, skyhook knows where i am and so does every gps device in my house,  got a feeling it wont get fixed.  im getting friend request from ppl using near that think im in south wales but im 160miles away and still cant find vita owners near me.

Ok so I was in Edinburgh and Near worked perfectly on my wifi vita.  This leads me to believe that my unit is fine and when the vita says 'could not obtain data for your location' what it means is that it does not know where you are so the fault is probably with the mac address not located from your router.  I am keeping an eye on mine as I registered with Sky hook about a week ago.

Nect question - What the hell does NEAR do?  I could not make head or tail of it but there were eight people around me in a .5km radius that were all playing.  If anyone can explain as I thought you could challenge folk that had the saem game etc but could not see how this was possible.

I dont understand im from holland (eindhoven) and near isnt working here either.

Did some tests with the vita and saw it takes over 15 minutes to get a GPS fix on google maps. after 15 minutes the radius within my position is still over 300 feet. Every time the screen goes off the wifi and also gps is shut down. after that it will take another 15 minutes to get it back up.

i dont know if near works with GPS or via internet. but i mostly connect my vita using the wifi hotspot of my HTC desire HD. When i start maps on my desire with android it takes the desire HD 8 seconds to get a GPS fix. i really dont understand why this sony garbage takes 15 minutes to get a fix.

NEar should find position with GPS and get data from the A-gps to get the right satelites within a couple of seconds. its freaking insane that you need to wait 15 minutes to get a descent GPS fix.

Why the hell wasnt this tested? i really dont understand why hardware like this is released "broken" and maybe after 15 patches will work like it should. Im really wondering what people at sony are thinking when they test the vita for a month and see that near isnt working.. they must have said.... "ah well release it! we dont care it doenst work, well patch it when enough people start complaining"

second: for god sake loose the freaking bubbles in the menu. its insane ugly and feels like some cheap chinese garbage. make the menus the same as the ps3. thats garbage too but atleast it looks nice!

last of all: Why is it when i press a game, or press settings, i first go to a screen where i need to "start"settings!! when i press the ugly settings bubble i wanna go to settings!! not get to a page where i need to again press a button to actually go to settings...

maybe its me... but companies like this are just releasing something no matter how it works or what people think. i hate apple but atleast they make stuff that actually works!

It works fine for me at home. It works fine for me at work

And yesterday I was nowhere near those two places. Piggybacked on someone's not secured wifi and it worked fine from there as well.
