People already sugested a system restore before, doesn't solve the problem. That it works for some (you included or so I gather), works temporarily for others, and doesn't work at all for the rest (I'm on this group) shows how erratic the problem is. I'm no techie but something that apears to affect so randomly and in so many different ways must be a pain to track down, let alone solve

I have the "An error has occured" (no error code number) problem after pressing the Near update button.
I really don't want to reset and format my system.
My question is...
Surely the fix for this problem is for Sony to add a button to the Near settings menu that resets the data for this app?

You don't have to format anything, just restore the system settings to their defaults. The backup is just to put back to the Vita what you have installed so you won't have to download again.
Even if there's a reset thing inside the NEAR app it wouldn't work because the Maps app doesn't work either, which makes me think the problem is something network related.
