Not sure if yours is doing what ours is doing ours are dead and wont even let us try to take pictures.
If yours is working fine now I'd keep it you have a 1 year warranty with Sony plus it would be hard to send it back because if its working when they test it they'll just send it back to you at your expense.
(if ordered online)
If it happens again try taking a screen shot by pressing PS Button and Start at the same time.

I tried Cliff Diver last night and I just got blank again
Spoke to Sony on the phone last night who said they advise within 28 days to swap it at a shop (as mentioned before Amazon will ship you out one before you return so you don't go without) or if not then they can fix it but it'd take a week or something.
On tapping to fix the camera it worries me since so many games now will be tapping the screens front and back
edit just downloaded table football and I have static
edit2 but who cares cause 2nd vita is arriving today ![]()

I have had some feedback on this,
If you have encountered an issue with the rear camera, which you haven't been able to get working through the Safe Mode option, it has been advised to contact you local PlayStation Support Line.
They will have troubleshooting information that can be tried to help resolve the issue. If the issue persists you can also speak to tthe retailer in regards to this.

Hey guys just thought I'd let you all know that I was having the same problem with my 3G vita, this morning I was planning on taking it back to hmv, so I deactivated the system, signed out, formatted the 16g memory card went into the format section in settings from there I choose restore the ps vita system option, after the system rebooted I checked the camera again just incase it was working before I took it back to hmv, and guess what the bloody camera was working fine lol So I signed back in to psn and entered all my settings again and the camera is still working fine. I don't actually think this is a hardware problem it seems like software based. On another note, I wasn't able to turn my vita off properly,it would just hang with a loading screen, I would then have to do a safe mode restart. Alas this problem has been rectified too.
Thanks for the feedback mchief22, this is very handy for others to try.
If anyone else has this issue have a go at trying this and let me know if it works!

Hi all,
I was having this issue last night and figured I'd update just in case something I did is helpful to either people with the same problem, or the support folks trying to solve it. I should say first though that while my cameras are now working, I'm not sure exactly what fixed them.
Firstly, as mentioned in the thread already, I went through the process of restoring the system from the safe-mode menu (all options in order of least to most impactful), restoring it from the settings menu, activating and deactivating the account and finally doing a complete restore including a full format of the memory card. Nothing worked and as I'd seen the replies here essentially saying to return it, I popped on to amazon and filled out the form.
After I'd done that I popped the memory card out and was told by the vita that I shouldn't have, and that the system would need to reboot. It failed to do that (whiring progress thing) so I had to hold the power button down to close it off and reboot it. When it rebooted I tried the camera again and it flatly refused to work without a memory card. It was late so I went to bed.
This morning, as I was going to be in posession of the Vita for a few days while I wait for the replacement, I decided to pop the memory card back in and just use the thing without the camera. I got another message saying that the machine needed to be rebooted. It did so without error this time and when it started up the camera was functioning again.
So, further to the advice already given in the thread, it may be worth booting the vita up without a memory card, and then again with the memory card re-inserted to see if that helps. I used the camera without the memory card, so that may be a factor in unsticking whatever's stuck if it's a software issue.
It could also be a heat related issue? I'd left the device off overnight so there's a good chance it had simply cooled enough to fix the problem - another poster mentions getting it working by tapping the camera, so it could well be a heat-based deformation issue causing connection to break? It may also be worth noting that I was using the device for a good few hours with it plugged in to the charger before the problem occured.
Sorry for the long post. I just figure that if the support guys are reading this thread, the more info we post about the problem the better.
