Im having problems with my front facing camera it wont let me take pictures and its a blank screen, it has been working but not at moment, ive rebooted the vita and it seemed ok but now its gone again. Im just backing up all my data and going to format the memory card see if that makes any difference

For what it's worth, I've just been sat playing with my Vita for about 3 hours checking the cameras every 30 minutes or so. They stopped working at about 2.5 hours in and the memory card removal and re-insertion did not work so the only thing that could have fixed my cameras was leaving the thing to rest for a number of hours.

Just done a couple of minutes on cliff diving and checked camera again and its working im guessing its a software problem. Hopefully an update should fix this

Okay, last thing I'll post about this:

Since my post last night I've done nothing but leave the Vita on a shelf in standby mode. This morning the cameras are working again. That's twice now they've stopped working in the evening after a long stretch of use, and yet have been working fine the following morning.

I know nothing about the vita's standby mode in terms of the firmware, so there's still a chance it's a software issue, but it seems highly likely that the battery or some other part of the device is getting hot and causing a problem. I should also re-iterate that I've been playing the device with the mains charger connected for the most part.

This issue says Solved now under the first post but I don't think that it is.

I had this same issue as soon as I started my Vita for the first time. Noticed the rear facing camera was black when getting to the Welcome Park tutorial that uses that camera. Then went into the Photos app and sure enough, completely black and won't let me take a photo.

Have followed the advice in this thread and had some success. Most suggested solutions had no effect but after fully clearing and reformatting the memory card and resetting the Vita system I was able to get the camera to work. Went into the Photos app a few times to be sure and was able to take a couole of photos and record video. I was relieved.

That was last night, since then I have played a couple of games and had the system on standby, charging and downloading from PSN. I go into the Photos app just a few moments ago and it is black again. I have turned the Vita off and am going to see if that has an effect but if I do not see any news here about it being a fixable software issue then I am planning to go into Game in the week to swap my unit for a new one

Sorry to double post but wished to add that I have not had any error messages at all and would like to know if people who swapped for a new Vita are now having no problems? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Ive gone out and got a new one and my old unit is going back to play.com for a refund

getting ready to back my vita up to send back to shopto.net and it started working for the 1st time ever !? then my vita crashed.

the camera better not start working when they testing it for faults

I'm hoping it's just a firmware issue messing with the camera that can be fixed in the next update. I just think it's odd the rear camera gives you no option to take a picture at all in Photos mode.

Everytime I have my Vita Rebuild the Database, it always says it's corrupt and the camera still doesn't work. Anyway to fix that even?

It's not that I can't return it, it's just a pain.
