(POSSIBLE) Solution - Blue Light of Death & Stick Drift (Deadzone Issue)

If by "Blue Light of Death" you mean the system won't allow you to turn the screen on whilst showing the PS Button lit constant with Blue light.  I had that problem where the solution given was to start up into the reboot menu (Start system by holding Power+PS Button+Right Shoulder), then selecting the Restart System option.  As for the stick drift problem which I originally thought was strictly as hardware ware'n'tear problem that prone to after reading about others have same or similar problems - I decided to test a theory that had me thinking, maybe this deadzone issue could be fixed by recalibrating the sticks much like a PC joysticks.  Last night I tried the reboof menu and used the "Rebuild Database" option and after testing both Uncharted and Unit 13 out, I found both sticks where centred!  Don't go quoting me on this one, but run this by tech support before announcing as definite solution or otherwise - But for those who tech savvy and feeling game.  What have you got to lose in giving this a shot.

Anyway, let me know if this does save you the trouble of unnecessarily replacing your system.

Nice Tip Wolfy, but to access that menu, you only need to hold the power button for ~30 seconds when turning the console on - no need to complicate things with the extra buttons.

You just lost The Game.

Re: (POSSIBLE) Solution - Blue Light of Death & Stick Drift (Deadzone Issue)

Ive had the "Blue light of Death" issue 3 times since i bought my console on the 15th of may, the latest just tonight. Unfortunately the "Reboot menu" wont work for me, Either method. The only way i have been able to start my vita again is to let the battery run flat and then charge it again before attempting to turn it on.

Is there a way to fix this issue permanently? It seems to me that there may be something seriously wrong with the Playstation Vita, either hardware or software related, for it to be doing this sort of thing mere months after purchase.

Yeah, that's what thought. Whether or not one of the patches has changed the settings for that, I don't know. I've tried turning on with the power button alone for 30sec, but it just boots up normal. The tip for accessing this reboot menu I got from a few videos on YouTube in relation to B.L.O.D. problem. As for the stickdrift, I experimented with that which I suggested (having worked for my situation) as above as I was under the impression that the deadzone issue could quite possibly be a software issue rather than hardware fault.

Re: (POSSIBLE) Solution - Blue Light of Death & Stick Drift (Deadzone Issue)

Hey Guys,

Another option/solution may be...Try restarting the system first. If that works, great! Everything is ok.

If the problem keeps reoccurring when you play a certain digital game, delete it and redownload.

Still no luck?

Try rebuilding the database next, it shouldn’t take too long and fixes a lot of problems. To activate safe mode, press and hold the following buttons while it is OFF (not standby) for 5 seconds: "R" button + PS button + Power button. Once menu appears on screen, choose option 2 - 'Rebuild Database' this will remove any corrupted data on your PS Vita which may also help with this Blue Light issue as well.

After that, try and update, unfortunately updates on PS3 rarely fixed problems from reboot, but it is worth a shot.

At this stage, if you still have no luck, you may need to go through formatting your memory card that will lose all your data on the card, and 'restoring' the Vita will wipe the system’s memory. Wiping the Vita first is more convenient as you at least won’t lose saves or have to redownload PSN games.

Hopefully this helps...

Re: (POSSIBLE) Solution - Blue Light of Death & Stick Drift (Deadzone Issue)

I've been experiencing this EXACT same problem! I would also LOVE to hear a solution to this strange hardware issue. Even when i attempt to rebuild, restore, restart, or even update my vita it doesn't show any signs of change.

When i had seleted restore my vita, after letting it die and charging it again, when i turned it on it HAD been restored but the BLOD issue didn't vanish.

Ahhh, woe is me.

Re: (POSSIBLE) Solution - Blue Light of Death & Stick Drift (Deadzone Issue)

I can't get to the Restart System Menu. I turn on the Vita, holding the power button for 30seconds and still nothing.

I've tried soft resetting as well, to no avail, trying to let the battery drain for now, but that will take awhile.

Any advice while I wait?  :\

Hi iBannedU,

I'm not too sure what your issue is there but if you are talking about accessing safe mode, then you can use this link.

Cheers
