Re: Problems with workaround for exporting to XMB- Copy to home menu

I'm in regional NSW, 2 hours from Canberra and 3 hours from Sydney. So your explanation sounds spot on gavsta72.
Now I have to hope that sony eu brings software out to allow us to work around for exporting, or even save to an external device via playtv.
I guess I will just delete what i've recorded once it's been watched. Thanks for all the info guys.

Re: Problems with workaround for exporting to XMB- Copy to home menu

I'm 150km north of Newcastle and rely on there signal (UHF) cuz i have a mountain right behind me which blocks the North Coast signal out of Port Mac (UHF/VHF)

I'm moving into Forster in a couple of months, so i'll get the North Coast signal there, and will be able to use the export to XMB feature.:smileywink:

Re: Problems with workaround for exporting to XMB- Copy to home menu

It's all because Sony went for "freeview" compatibility.. The freeview clowns made Sony remove the export function as well as the skip forward 60 function so you cant skip the commercials.. Personally I would have told freview to get stuffed and released PlayTV unadulterated.  So I will bee keeping my topfield PVR for those shows that I may want to export to the PC.

I rellly hope Sony fix the export issue in a later realease of the software but I doubt it.  Oh and I am in Darwin so UHF only for DVB :smileysad:

Re: Problems with workaround for exporting to XMB- Copy to home menu

G'day Codez,

Gavsta72 got it spot on, VHF was the reason I could still pick up the Melbourne channels and then be able to use the "Other" location.  On Sony's part it's pretty dumb that Australia can't use the XMB feature, cause it's a great feature.

I have the current update, the only fault I have is the blu-ray remote only letting me key in on the numeric pad oneHD and not much else.

Considering the amount of time we have being waiting you would think the channel selection would work at least with the update!

Re: Problems with workaround for exporting to XMB- Copy to home menu

It looks like I will have to buy 500 gig Hard drives. Although, that wont help with editing ads or burning to DVD for storage.

500 gig isn't really that much when 1 hour of HDTV can be 4.5 gig of TV....

4.5gb you say.... I recorded One HD the other night (1hr 5 minutes for UFC Wired) and it ended up taking up 7.1gb - altho this is a 1080i channel, so clearly 1080 res takes up more than just 'hd'

Seriously all they would have to have done is somehow tagged the file you exported with the serial number of the PS3 that did it if they were worried people would distribute copies of FREE TO AIR tv..... geez

I know what you mean. I taped UFC last night and it was 6.9 gig :smileyfrustrated:  I like your idea too. PS3 address stamped on the bottom corner then they can trace where it comes from.

I might just have to record my TV shows to VHS so I can watch them on another TV.
