Idea on how to prevent duplicate buildings

First of all, this is my first time visiting this forum, and I have not read through all the threads, so this idea might have already been suggested. If so, I'm sorry. =P

 

 

So I was playing a little game of CTF today, and I noticed that we had 6, for lack of a better term, Hawk Spawns, in our main base.

 

So I thought; why is that? There's really no need to have this many duplicates of the same building, and they were very close to each other too.

My conclusion is that when players spawn, they already have a tactic in mind. They're gonna roll with a Razorback, or get a Jetpack + a Rocket Launcher, or rush with a Hawk etc. Players don't feel like walking around the base looking for the building they need, so they just build a new one. This means that within a matter of minutes there will be unnecessary buildings all over the place.

 

My idea on how to fix this is a small addition to the HUD that would show how many buildings of each type your team has at the time. So if I spawn and see that we have 2 Garages already, I won't waste energy on building yet another one.

 

Tl;dr: To prevent unnecessary buildings, have a thing on the screen that shows how many buildings of each type your team has already built.

 

Example on where to add this:

 That, or in the upper left corner where it says Private/Public BETA. Instead of weapon/vehicle building icons I've used yellow squares.

First of all, welcome to the forums :smileyhappy:
I see what you mean, but i think this would overcrowd the screen HUD wise. Maybe just adding a number next to each building icon on the build and battle menu to show how many there are on the map? Or maybe even a number to show if there are any of the selected buildings within a few yards of the player?

Yeah sure, including it on the building screen is a good idea. =)

 

All I want is to be able to know if I should spend energy on a new building or just find the one I need.

One change for your idea. Put it at the bottom of the screen. But I don't think that the reason for duplicate buildings is because people don't spot them but people don't know that you can buy a new hawk or razorback from the pads. And it also doesn't help that you can't see anymore the timer which shows how long until you can build a new razorback or hawk.

 

But adding this idea will certainly cut one problem out. But I think peoples minds are so unpredictable that I wouldn't wonder if Cthulu said them to build duplicate buildings.

How about some kind of localised structure limit? If there's already a garage/bunker/launchpad within the radius of the spawn beacon then simply don't allow the building of more structures of that type in that area.

good idea but I would say the biggest cause of multiple buildings is noobs:smileyhappy: experienced players may occasionally make a duplicate building but the only reason there would ever be 6 hawk pads in the base is lack of experience and game awareness. atm the only buildings I have issues with are the jetpack dispensers. everything else is on the map though I do think they need to add some kind of outline so buildings can be more clearly identified.

The idea is good but instead that crowding the HUD we coudl just have a "building counter" in the B&B menu.
We already have a counter for the "rift energy required" so I suppose that another number, in a different color, could work.
Each building has its own shape so if you look at the map you can tell which, and how many, have been placed but with this "building counter" things will get even more clear.

just walk up to the structure that is over crowding the base and reclaim it simple i dont really care how many builldings they are i either blow it up if the enemys or reclaim it iff i see 3 jet packs at 1 base people will do as they wish so be the better player and remove un wanted builldings simple why would someone builld a hawk pad when their is 1 in the homebase when you spawn is retared i dont want to play with you haaaaaaa 

 

the game main point is b&b so to put restricution on what players can build and how many builldings their are will never happen they aint gonna do it simple as a player i want to build what i want when i want as long as i have the riff good point but it ant gonna happen guys sorry to tell you that 

 

i suggest more builldings add another wheel to the build give us more builldings to build than people will build differnt stuff all over the map instead off the same stuff every were iam very disapponting int he builldings that are their they are  nothing that you dont expect from, starhwak nothing new creative crazy unique builldings i hope for more but lets wait and see the final game 

  

i would like to see a apc buillding were you can move the whole buillding on wheels kind like a big mobile base would seriouls crapp my pants if i see that comeing over the hills i know. (GAME ON LADS) you can take it  to the enemy this base you can have 1 tank 1 razorback and 5 or 6 guys in the buillding has guns for defence that the guys can man like the dropship the buillding can be placed and moved around the map for help for defence for tacctics for flanking the enemy for holding down points of the map it would bring fun creative gameplay to the game
