Hey LBI and Beta Trialists!
I'd like to talk a bit about flight. I've made this post as simple as possible for easy developer consumption.
Here's my feedback about flight:
A short disclaimer: I understand the need to make games accessible. However wih Starhawk, after a couple of flights I have nothing further to learn and no skills to hone. I've mastered it, there's nothing more to accomplish and nothing to brag about. I don't feel special any more.
My supporting argument would be: Look at the positive sentiment that Dark Souls has achieved. It gives the player enough controls to get by, but the game requires that they master the advanced controls in order to become successful in the late game (or, more relevantly, when playing against the tougher players).

Do this. Try and approach it objectively, I'm keen to hear what others think.
Of course, we're the die-hard as most people in this beta will be. However, I think one of the ways we built such a strong community around Warhawk here in Europe was through the need for new players to come and ask for flying tips - and the willingness of the pro players to offer them.
Let me know what you think ![]()

Have no fear old friend - warhawk is dear to my heart, as I am sure you know - without it I would not have been a part of the greatest forum in the world. I would not have met some of the friendliest gamers in the world. And I would not have formed the greatest clan in the world

Flying seems to run a bit slow, yes, but I think it might pan out. Warhawk was all about the Warhawk (duh), while in this game it seems to be a bit more ground heavy. With some tweaking to the controls and the feel to it, I think it will be good.
What I really disliked was how sluggish flying felt, and less responsive than what I was expecting. But I still kind of like it, but I need to get used to it...

Here's my feedback about flight:
- Flying is too basic, there's very little to master. Make the current "Advanced Flight" mode the default and add a Pro-Flight mode which all players should aspire to (and are encouraged to aspire to by the game).
- Dodging missiles is too easy, I don't panic when locked like I did in Warhawk, there's no rush. Remove the ability to dodge and make players perform their own evasive maneuovers
- I don't have enough control over my speed. I can slow down, but I can't speed up without using the afterburners which destroy my agility. Add an additional speed and bring back double-tap for afterburners.
- I really miss the ability to insert a team mate into the heat of the battle by transporting them in a hawk. Allow passengers to get into Hawks and give them something to do (like spotting targets) whilst there.

I'm not sure I see things the same muster! ![]()
Flying is too basic at the moment, but then there's only 3 weapon pick ups available. Things will get much more complex when you're dodging a whole variety of stuff as well as the standard homing and swarm missiles.
I'd love to know how you are dodging missiles so successfully as well. When I press the 'evasive action' combination, the missiles still seem to hit. Either I'm missing something or the whole mechanic doesn't really work. I agree a proper pro flight needs to be put back into the game.
I agree about the speed as well, it would be great to have the speed modes back as they were in warhawk. Holding down R2 to cruise just feels natural.

I agree 100% with Muster. I thought LBI might do this, make the game a lot easier and 'noob friendly' so it appeals to the masses. It's horrible at the moment, the flight is so slow and not fun. I don't understand what was wrong with pro-flight in Warhawk. I used pro-flight for about 800 hours and still didn't 'master' it. It seems like it's gone a few steps backwards, not forward as a sequel should.
On the ground, its hard to find weapons. They seem to spawn quite far apart and it's hard to find them, maybe it's because they don't stand out like the weapons in Warhawk did. The melee is glitched at the moment, hopefully this is a bug and it will be fixed. You knife someone from 50 yards away and get a one hit kill but it takes 20-30 bullets from a rifle to kill. I find the turrets have too much health, its hard to kill one without dying, impossible to kill two.
