Starhawk BETA - Skill-System Discussion

Thought I'd start a thread to allow discussion of the Skill System that is about to be introduced to the game.

 

Dylan Jobe just tweeted the following:

 

"Today we're going to be be deploying an update that adds the Skill-System to the Starhawk BETA!

 

The Starhawk skills are still "work-in-progress" so we're really looking forward to hearing your feedback after today's BETA Update!

 

In preparation of the roll-out of the Starhawk skills, we will need to perform a stats/level reset on all BETA players.

 

The stats/level reset for Starhawk BETA players will help us get better gameplay data when players unlock and equip the different skills."

 

Personally I'm not sure if unlockable skills are a good idea, but I'm intrigued to see what their approach will be. I'll be interested to hear everyone's opinions later after the update lands.

According to Dylan Jobe, the skills are going to be leaning more towards the weapons. So the engineer perk (or whatever it'll be called) would have the player spawn with a repair tool, but only when the player earns the perk by repairing enough buildings/vehicles.
I think if all the perks follow this route, it'll work well. Sort of like a class system :smileyhappy:

i been using either fuel efficiency or stealthy, great for dog fighting which is my main thing.

Not to sure if I like the one that stops you coming up on the enemy radar!!!!!!

We already have players who get fantastic KDR in there favour....

What are they going to be like with that skill/perk equipt?

If you think about it with this perk achieved & equipt the ones that require you to kill 10 ppl in a game would be a lot easier as your not on the radar....

If its equipt does it work on Hawks?

If so the Hawks just become a lot more deadlier...

Haven't really had much chance to play yet since the update. For someone that's quite critical of a percs system being introduced, I have to admit I think what they've done so far. Had a read through what's on offer... The only one that seems to stand out is the stealth and the reveal all on map skills. Not sure about these two. I'll reserve my opinion until I've given them a fair chance...

the perks are o-kay... but I prefer warhawk where players are seperated by skill, not just which perk they are using...

When all players have access to the same abilities  I think that the skills could be good,  as this allows for a extra team synergy (or stratergies ) that could keep things more interesting over time . 

 

Possibly an issue will be the lack of access for newer players..  someone joining SH a weeks after launch won't have any skills and so could be discouraged with this disadvantage that they are intially burdened with (in additon to normal lack of experience etc that new players have).

That's something I'm hoping won't happen too much. They seemed to do a good job so far. I can see that the percs will be pretty quck to unlock. Strategically they will enrich the game though. Imagine during a clan match turning the game around from a base rape due to be able to spawn in with the rocket launcher and other special weapons. There's loads more possibilities.

@ saber yes it stealths your hawk, best way to deal with em is to keep ya eye on the mini map and track the enemy from there missles.
I can see scavanger, weapon mods and stealth being the top tier skills, I like the idea of introducing them, gives a bit of strategic depth, will be great in clan matches.

another pointless what crappp fps idea skill for wat you want to spawn with ad rpg ohhhhhhhhh wait when i pop out my pod il just spawn on a supply bunker and walk over to it and look their is a rpg how foking hard is that skill system suks i got skill in my thumbs not by creating a server and me a few freinds tick off your skill system 1 by 1 and than play with players with out this advantage and kill them for sport another gimic to keep you playing fix the gameplay for fok sake people
