In single player ride to an open area of the map and 'Press Select' and choose the camp site icon from your saddlebag to save.  All this info is on page 14 of  the game manual btw.

As far as i know, multiplayer saves automatically, not sure why it gives you the notice if you want to exit, but i've never lost process by exiting multiplayer.

If you open your RDR game box and look on the left, you'll see a booklet, this is called an Instruction Manual and it tells you all manner of good things, including how to save your game.

if you have the warhorse code there is a real quick way to save at anytime.

ensure autosave is on(its on by default), then whenever you want to save just hit select and use your warhorse deed, it then saves your game, this can be done anywhere.(if you already have the warhorse just shoot it and skin it then use deed)

for multiplayer just press start and then exit, pretty sure everything gets saved to rockstars servers and not your ps3

I just head to somewhere i own and if you walk up to your bed it gives you the option to save, i think the online is just as the other guy's say, just exit and it will save on its own.

In multiplayer just push Start and scroll down the bottom to where I believe it says Main Menu. By doing this it will leave multiplayer and save your progress immediately and it will reboot the game again and return to the main menu. I believe the game also saves after matches automatically or when a challenge has been completed.

As for single player just head to a save point on the map or you can set up camp anywhere outside of a town to save!

This is a common problem unfortunately, people for some reason trying to display their epeen prowess, attempting to be smarter than they are, over something they have clearly not gathered all the possible information on.

For example: I never got an instruction booklet with my game, I downloaded the game straight to my PS3 from the store, digitally!! Crazy I know, but with these fast-moving modern times, you can be the proud owner of a game and not have an instruction manual.

Now that's not to say they couldn't have looked it up online, or figured it out, but hey, who are we to be smug.
