It's not a case of lasiness.  It's a case of having to cater for multiple and very different platforms, and to manage budgets.

If this had been a PS3 exclusive, it could have been so much better (a look at ANY PS3 exclusive will show this), it's clearly not the PS3 hardware holding the PS3 back, it's the Xbox hardware holding the PS3 back (in a very bizzare paradox way).

I'm sure all devs know this, and the next lot of projects will be far more PS3 focused, taking into account the PS3's abilities and the Xbox getting the scraps on the table and the "best fits".

YAY! I finally worked out how to have a picture signature!

Other developers have been getting multiplatform games right on both systems for a while now, how is it not Rockstars fault. Your entire post feels so 2007/2008, so much stuff has been debunked over the last two years on both sides.

let's be honest, we don't know if that's true or not. It may or may not be the case, let's see what Agent looks like, seeing as though that is a PS3 exclusive Rockstar game.

I agree that Sony exclusives like Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 look fantastic but they are very different games to Red Dead, they aren't huge open world games. The only similar free roaming exclusive we've seen on PS3 is Infamous and that didn't look too great and I doubt it is anywhere near the size of Red Dead.

been following this over at neogaf where they got it firs...

been following this over at neogaf where they got it first. comparisons show the 360 v is better.

its the facts unfortunatley, the 360 v is sharper, has less framerate issues, less popping, more foliage and detail in many places, less aliasing and motion blur. ps3 has all of those unfortunatley.

in motion, the game looks good. on both it looks good in motion.

but nowhere as good as it could have on ps3

Re: been following this over at neogaf where they got it firs...

I've been reading all of this Resolution/framerate/aliasing crap for years now and it doesn't matter one jot.

If you get your nickels worth and enjoy playing the thing then the job is done irrespective of platform, franchise, network or any other guff.

But xbox 360 has all of the online problems. Characters vanishing, Horses vanishing, Guns vanishing, game freezing, severe lag, getting kicked every five minutes, large pieces of land disappearing and then reappearing etc etc.

Their single player MIGHT look nicer but;

1. You wouldn't notice unless you were playing both simultaneously.

2. They have so many online problems it isn't even worth logging on right now.

3. Rockstar is already working on patches for all of the problems (in single player and multi)

Re: been following this over at neogaf where they got it firs...

Before everyone gets their ovaries in a twist, let me say that the versions are identical.

Yes I've seen the screen grabs on Neogaf et al. But that isn't the full picture.
But when you are playing the game, you can't see any differences (well I can't).

I've seen the 360 version (didn't play it but was itching to).
I'm now playing the PS3 version, and it's the same.
Trust me I've looked for failings (only coz I got swept up in the 'which is better looking' threads.)

They both have the same, but slightly different failings.

They both have texture draw-in, (which you won't notice within an hour of getting into the game).
But pop-up seems different on each console, so much so, that it's impossible to tell if it's just that area you are in or if it's really down to the console's ability.

There's probably going to be more of a difference (in games) depending on what res your HDTV can display or even what HDTV you have & it's contrast settings.

Honestly, they are the same (both versions).
I think they use a different graphic sprite-set for basic grass, different on each version, but if you can really see one version looking better on any one version, you have to be looking at stills (rather than video) and deciding on texture detail on the smallest level possible.)

If anyone buys the PS3 version, then complains that it's somehow inferior to the 360 version, then you need your bum smacked,
and question why you even play games in the 1st place.

Play the game, then decide.

The Images have been fabricated. The PS3 captures are from an SD screen not an HD screen and the PS3 captures were also photoshopped.

It's just a 360 fanboy with to much time on his hands.
