Yes it works believe me. No need to be maxed out, just be sure your characters have the best weapons available. You'll need to have a full bar of command points for the last blow (which shouldn't be difficult since you bbasically wait for three turns doing practically nothing, and two good lancers so Largo is essential as well as Alicia and Rosie (for the extra command point they give you), and Hector because his "ammo refill" and "tank destroyer" potentials might come in handy. When you run out of ammo refill them with the engineer and voilà.
here is a hint on how you have to start the mission :

I will try this out sometime- thank you muchly!
I think Hector died in the desert mission against the massive tank- I know I lost 2 lancers forever in that battle because Selvaria got into a position where if I sent anyone to save them, they'd be killed also 
I had a massive grudge against her for ages right up until..... you know....

It's not ultra violence as in Fist of the North Star, Gantz or Elfen Lied, etc. It's more like psychological violence. You can watch the show on You Tube this guy has it all : http://www.youtube.com/user/supersneaky and don't let the plain charadesign put you off.
