Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

Ok, so my level 26 character got a bugged quest from online called 'Keep Your Insides Inside' and I looked on the Gearbox forums and saw something to do with a savegame editor called 'WillowTree' and 'WillowShrubbery' which removes the bugged quests. I, however, opted to start a new game to rid myself of the quest and have so far reached level 18 (I created another character to hold my items I had) and just want to know how the quest is passed on so I can play online without worry.

I have 3 questions:

1.) Is the quest passed on just by joining a game with a host who has the bugged quest?

2.) Can it be passed on to me when I am in a random game where the host doesn't have the quest but someone who does joins it?

3.) Can it be passed on to me if I am hosting and a player with the bugged quest joins?

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

Sorry, you can't play online without picking up the bugged mission again. It's to do with the quest sharing system amongst teammates. If anyone joins a game you are in you will get their 'open' quests added to yours.

Willowtree will remove the bug permanently though, if you don't want to try that email me your .sav file and i'll send it back fixed.

I can't think of another way to sort it, sorry. If you need any guns or any other cool stuff, I make my own unique guns using the gearcalc and can design a signature gun of your own specifications if you wish (not for online use of course).

Send a PM if you need my email.

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

The only reason I don't want to use willowtree is because (sounding paranoid) I don't want to recieve a ban from playing online with a modded savegame which has been altered (ok for a good cause but altered nonetheless) Is there a risk of me being banned and can I just use it on my now lvl 19 character to prevent getting the quest or do I actually need the bugged quest?

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

I didn't think repairing the save was ban worthy thats why I offered to help. If you're concerned then don't do it. If they ban me for trying to help then so be it, I'll take the ban and learn my lesson lol.

You can just live with it, it isn't a major problem, it won't affect your completion of the game. Its just that you'll always have an open mission in your log that can't be turned in.

I used willowtree myself to solve the problem and a similar issue with the Knoxx DLC, where upon entering the prison my game would load a screen filled with random shapes and I was beneath the map. I couldn't complete the game, I deleted my game data and even re-downloaded the dlc but it didn't work. Finally I used WT to mark the mission as 'completed' so I didn't need to enter that area.

Is that against the rules ? i've no idea. As for Gearcalc and weapons - it can be used to create legitimate weapons that should have been dropped in the game but weren't (again because of bugs) like 'Knoxx's gold' or 'Reaver's edge'. The custom guns I design myself are purely for entertainment purposes and not for use online.

As an example, I made a shotgun that shoots rockets but I slowed the projectile speed so slow that you can run faster than the rocket - Just because its funny, to fire the gun and run past the bullet. I find designing my own loot more fun than the game itself, as long as I don't drop it in an online game I should be ok.

*crosses fingers and awaits ban* :smileyhappy:

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

Well, I've reached lvl 20 and my cousin is getting the game and a few friends have it. I think I'll just backup my save before I go online with randoms and live with the possibility of getting the bug but being able to revert back to my stored save is a nice thought for me. It sounds as though you've been doing this stuff for a while and considering quite a lot of people have done it too I expect, and haven't recieved a ban I reckon it's ok to use. What do you know about WillowShrubbery though? You can check the gearbox forums for more details if need be. Also, you mentioned getting guns that are supposed to drop - If I get these, are they ok to use online or would they come under the catergory of 'modded weapons'?

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

The game save backup idea is a great solution, should work fine. I've never used shrubbery, never needed it.

There is a thriving community of weapon traders within the gearbox forums, many of the guns are duplicated using Willowtree but are still legitimate items because they can be found within the game. Gearbox software don't seem to have a problem with that. The gearcalc app will tell you if your 'creation' is legit or not. There are many variables and the smallest change can drastically alter the weapons attributes, like swapping for a different barrel to make it more accurate. There are millions of possible combinations.

Anything found within the game is legit gear, as is anything that would be possible using the game's creation algorithm - but which didn't actually drop. Some people dupe guns by creating a backup save, giving all your stuff to a new character, then deleting the empty one and restoring the backup save. Then you have 2 characters with the same stuff and you can give stuff to your friends. Lots of players find that the easiest way so I hope it works for you.

It's been reported that gearbox software recently trademarked the name 'Borderworlds' and its caused much speculation about the sequel game. I only hope that the new weapons vendors in the next game allow upgrades to be purchased for guns and allow slight changes to be made like adding a better scope etc.

It would then allow the whole community to experience the joy of weapons modding in a legitimate way, and experience the fun of creating a truly rare and unique weapon.

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

From what I have read, WillowShrubbery is a simplified version of WillowTree and is in website form - choose from various checkboxes (remove viral quests and reset objectives done in wrong order). It seems a lot less complicated and easy to use and I might use it. One other thing, in Knoxx, apparently you fall through the floor and grab all the loot. But you get stuck and can respawn at a new u station. This then makes the quest incompletable because of the fact that it was done in the wrong order. If it was reset, I would be able to complete it, no?

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

The shrubbery thing might be simple but it only has limited functions, WT is also easy to use and does much more, you'll see what I mean if you ever use it.

There are 3 quests which take you into the armoury, the first is a mission given by athena and there are 2 others given by marcus. If you reset them with shrubbery you can complete them later as normal. The Knoxx armoury isn't worth your time if you want the best weapons.

Crawmerax the invincible drops the best loot ever seen on pandora, and there are no crates to open. If you play as Mordy with a +2 'find rare items' scavenger class mod, or as lilly with a similar mod - you'll have a better chance of picking up the rarest Pearlescent weapons when you kill Craw.

Farming crawmerax is the best and most efficient way, after killing and looting him leave the cave and enter again to repeat the process. The armoury is a big waste of effort tbh.

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

Sorry to revive a long dead thread, but I was wondering:

What are the implications of playing online with others (presumably that do not have the bug on their save) when they are further ahead or behind in the story?

Re: Borderlands Bugged Quest Help

If it's a bug, the implications are no doubt bad.
