Just a warning to be careful when taking on multiple quests. Some quests will cancel when starting another.
I fell foul to this after I'd met a chap in the Castle gardens at night, and he asked me to go look for a lost scroll. I went and took on another quest (involving Mercedes) from the quest giver next to the Dukes throne it cancelled the scroll search quest, autosaving a checkpoint at the same time so when I tried reloading the last checkpoint it loaded to the point immediatley after the quest cancelled.
I've lost this quest now (comes up as cancelled in the completed quests screen), others be warned!
its because they are story related.
Also worth noting that there are many quests that can be easily missed. Mercedes also has a escort quest that can be missed too. I have also missed the witch hunt quest as well as a few others.
its refreshing that an RPG actually has consequences and some degree of dynamisism (is that a real word ?)
the only bad thing about this dynamic approach is that you can miss trophies because of it. I am in no way a trophy hunter and I despise second playthroughs and the NG+ mechanics but I'd like a full and complete playthrough without the negative effects on trophies.
Id also advise that people should get as many kill [insert monster] quests in their list BEFORE going out on any kind of exploration
I do agree that it kinda adds consequences to your actions, but its not very clear and the save system doesn't help. Wonder how many trophies i'm missing out on!
As long as you do one escort quest, and any 50 notice board quests, the notice board quests are disposable as far as trophies are concerned. The total carries across games as well, so technically you could do the same one board quest across 50 play throughs for the trophy if you really wanted.
For the witch hunt quest the trigger is random I think, I unlocked because some randomers were talking about an evil witch that controls the dragon in the fountain square in grand soren.
Atm im looking for more sidequests, also I have a quest called ambush unlocked and have done for awhile it directs me to this general area just across the bridge outside gran soren.
Two days ago I went out there and camped all day and all night, eventually in the middle of the night some mercs with a ton of skele soldiers appeared, I killed them the red circle dissapeared but I got no quest completion message and the quest is still listed on my quest list.
Does anybody know how I continue this quest? I know the quest started ages ago when I exited for the griffin hunting quest, it gave me a short cutscene where a bunch of what looked like bandits were standing round on a ruined castle gawking at me.
I've done storyline quests since which claimed they would cancel all my quests but this quest didn't cancel so im starting to wonder if its important and its bugging me that I can't get the ambush to happen.
Witch Hunt appears on the notice board I believe - I picked it up there the other night.
The ambush quest is pretty vague, but there are 4 ambushes around the place, then when you've done those (in whatever order), you run into a "boss" outside Cassardis...

My Nameless Terror Quest got cancelled :/
I fought Zero and the quest never completed but sat idle. After the dragon slaying it cancelled.
Another small tip is that if you take an escort quest with a more combat based character you effectively get yourswelf another pawn as they always fight alongside you.
Sir Max stayed with me for a few sidequests before I took him home. non combats escorting is a pain in das boot as they rush in and get pwned pretty quick but a good tip there is to setup your port crystal at destination before taking the quest and simply ferrystoning to location.
Escort subjects try and stay near you, so I found they were only tricky if I was trying to use melee. It's easy is you stay back and just fire stuff while your pawns (mine has shield bash and I always hire a warrior with war cry) draw aggro.
