Re: Dragon’s Dogma

A short demo, but I'm utterly sold on it.  :smileyhappy:

I'll likely be getting the 360 version though- having tried both versions of the demo I'm almost certain the PS3 has more lag.....

Really? The second quest started in bright daylight for me... Although one time I took ages and it turned to night over the course of the fight which was pretty cool.

I started in Daylight and I got the "transition to night" but it was more a sudden darkness once the griffin went all blue and glowy

It tells you what item you are standing over in a reasonably sized notification, so you are not purely reliant on the highlighted circle option. Items also glow although it isn't hugely noticable, I agree. Plus, just running around corpses spamming circle works :smileywink:

Ya, Im a big fan of spaming "collect" around corpses. Its very dependent on taking the time to make sure you run around everywhere which isnt intuitive during a fight and time consuming and game breaking when done through an entire RPG :/ I would like to see the loot drops highlight better.  My preference has always been autocollect (walkover or hoover) but I do get that inventories get filled up too fast (although dont we all collect everythign then sort later ?)

War in the North had allies collectin gtheir own loot and using their potions etc and it worked ok If you never touched their inventory or gave them anything. How did you heal the pawns ?

Did you slash some of the bushes and get the herbs ? I thought that was a nice touch

You can have dialogue with pawns if your facing them and you hit circle. Its the usual generic stuff thats repeated. They can get in the way which is anoying. In the scene with the guy who gives you an item just before fighting the chimera they totally blocked him and I couldnt interract.

I couldnt run sideways and I cant find the block button/skill

That mid action slowmo cutscene got old and anoying very fast.  The pawn who was casting the spell just repeat casted it so either the AI was a bit thick or the spell had a low duration and a super fast cool down.  Apart from spitting poision the chimera didnt cast any spells so why was the pawn castng dispel ? (yes I know the logic)

I think my expectations are starting to excede this gen RPG's  Everything was as I expecting and I found it very formulaic.  Its more detailed graphically and there is more atsmophere than DA2.  I have high hopes for the full game and I want something more open worldy than a linear path environment (GOW style) or an instanced world (DA)

The demo was hard to judge what the full game will be in terms of an RPG from the numerous videos the combat looks pretty well covered.

Be prepared to hear "I've learned a new way to fight their ilk" many many many times :smileyhappy:

I haven't had a problem with the highlighting personally - I noticed something I missed just fine. I wouldn't recommend Sacred 2 to you based on the above, but you'd be missing out on an awesome RPG :smileywink:

Run over to them and press circle when they are downed. It might work when they are nearly downed as well - I'm not sure.

No I didn't notice that, but yeah - nice touch :smileyhappy:

Although a time sink, checking every bush for goodies...

I know, I didn't want to talk to them, I just wanted to be launched up to the Griffin.

Aim the camera at the monster and hold the left stick left or right and press L3 => side ways run. It's not a strafe animation - I just meant running perpendicular to the monster.

As far as I could tell, I could only block in the first mission where you have a sword. I couldn't block in the Griffin mission, either because I had a bow, or paired daggers.

You can turn the "cinematic" (read: annoying) camera off in the options.

Enjoyed the demo to :smileyvery-happy:.

Didn't like all the text on the left hand side of the screen though. Between txt, & all the instructions on the bottom left, your not left with much screen that isn't covered by something.

The big bird fella took place during the day for me, it was an epic battle!  Combat is simple which I like. Reminds me a bit of God of War. The inventory seems easy to use which I like.

Also didn't like that I couldn't rotate when using the shield, instead your forced to just look in one direction. Lock on isn't an issue for me. Made the Big bird fight a bit more intense trying to aim for it.

The raining arrows was decent. Made for a good starter attack to hit a few goblins instead of just legging it in.

I'm predicting a lot of bugs & framerate issues though, as you would in such a huge game. I hope Capcom are quicker at patching things than Bethesda are.

Thanks Infinite :smileyhappy:

The looting and the bush slashing are all time sinks and RPG's are littered with them sadly. My preference is that all the laborious crap is automagic and the combat and puzzles are skill based.  It does seem that alot of gaming has become more time sink and automatic combat as well as puzzle clues so obvious i wanna cry... rhetoric aside.

I can handle the twin stick camera approach but I do find I constantly have to nudge the angle up and down and sometimes the directed camera scenes clash with the stick control. (eg. walking through a door way)

"healing" the pawn I was talking more along the lines of giving them potions BEFORE they get ye olde skull icon (knockdown) and I cant directly heal them from the menu either.  They do seem to lack self survival.

I checked out the website an more gameplay vids (cyclops pwnage !!) as well as some in depth reviews and I get the impression there is alot to be discovered.

The griffin launch looks like its AI based and after a few attempts at the griffin the AI will call out the "Ive learned......" line and that appears to generate new techniques. **cough** early farming/glitch/bug *cough**

Combat - pause, open inventory, power up, resume Combat - pause, open inventory, spell buff, check pawn inventory, balance items, resume, Combat, collect item - pause, open inventory, use item, resume, combat....   is really gonna suck ballz.

Gonna take a few tweaks to get the options setup right too :/

Me - Magik Archer

Pawnstar - Warrior (tank)

WTB

Magepawn - St Johns Whaaaambulance

Assassinpawn - Moneyshot

Rangerpawn - Flings his load from a distance aka snipah

Re: Dragon’s Dogma

I wasn't too sure about this at first. I had watched the trailers on the PS Store and again on youtube and couldn't mae my mind up. I decided to give the demo a go, not really expecting it to be much good if I'm truthful, but I have to say I'm really impressed and put through my pre-order, even with Ghost Recon coming out on the same day.

I'm addicted to the demo but I think I will start a new character for the full release, unless you get some sort of bonus for being involved or importing your Pawn from the demo.

I've done my pre-order through Amazon.co.uk. Yeah I haven't really been on forums much lately due to plaing Football Manager 2012 but hoping to change that.

Yeah I'll be on tonight if you fancy a bash on Lost Planet, would be nice to get that game finished ready for the third installment.
