It seems to be part of almost a new style of action-adventure game genre... "Interactive cinema", where multiple gameplay elements are pulled together, but typically one or two of them are drastically simplified in order to push the game pace and story along... Face it, Uncharted 1 and 2 never had difficult platforming or puzzles... and there was very little exploration required... the difficulty came from the gun-play set peices... the rest was all added candy floss to wow you.
This 'genre' gets a lot of criticism from some gamers, (games are becoming too easy, they cry..... developers want to hold your hand...) but I'm finding as I get older and my game time becomes more limited, and my gaming tastes also change, I'm easily drawn towards these games. To use the Uncharted example again, I have Tomb Raider Underworld and I find the platforming frustrates me... and I really don't enjoy getting lost in the maps... I just want to get 'on with it'... Maybe when I was in my early 20's and the original game came out, things would have been different. But if the game is actually fun to play, the characters and story draw me in, then it is money well spent... (after 8 plays of Uncharted 1 I can still watch the cutscenes, they are that good.. whereas a loaded gun couldn't force me to watch the Bayonetta cinema again)
Besides, as they say... games can be as difficult as you want them to be, if multiple difficulty modes are available... and aside from the auto targetting style, Uncharted in your face climbing points indicating not a lot of challenge in the platforming department, for all we know the actual combat could be GOW Chaos Mode ball breaking difficult when you bump it up...
But please.. I hope the webz don't start calling this one a GOW clone too..
.. the combat reminded me more of the Darksiders demo combat than GOW or Dante's Inferno, though I suspect it is a very different style of game to Darksiders..

Id say the game looks more like
an Uncharted mixed with Darksiders clone.
(Darksiders only for the narratives..least it seems that way)
Also I agree with the conematic games. I prefer them
games are generally easy (except or Dead Rising)
But thats compared to games of yesteryear which while I have
fond memories they were sometimes very very frustrating.

OMGOMGOMG
1 week to go to this and Castlevania
.
might just explode from overexcitement
Yeh I mainly put it up for those who can't/didn't get the demo.
Speaking of the demo.
Positives- Felt like a blend of Uncharted and GOW. Had some epic moments eg climbing up the wing just after the statue of liberty. Monkey felt good in movement, platforming and combat. It had a real cinematic feel with all the camera angles. The cinematics were out of this world. The emotions shown on Trip's face being the highlight
Negatives- I was hoping for more of a demo like uncharted got. Where it isn't an introduction and you get a chance to play around a bit more with the game as it'll be throughout. I guess they wanted to keep the story under wraps. The only other issues I had were in the cutscenes. Monkey's arm and shoulder looked low res at the start and Trip's hair went through her back.

Here is a nice review.
Sounds great. Could've done with a little more polish though.

I havnt downloaded the demo yet but im going to have to
It's actually based off the ancient chinese story Journey to the West, hence Odessy to the West. Monkey the old tv series was based around that same story. They have said they are trying to bring the story into a more modern setting. They are definitely making some changes though. Eg demons to robots If I'm correct I think Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z also took alot of inspiration from it.
I look forward to getting the demo once we get our fast internet again. Bloody limits
I wasnt interested in this game until the reviews dropped a few names: Monkey, Tripitaki, Pigsey etc.
I absolutely love the dubbed Monkey Magic, so this has a lot of potential. The brilliance of BBC back in the old days!

JB has Enslaved on pre order for $88 [it was $108 earlier this week]. You get a redemption code for some DLC original monkey costume that gives him double melee power. Plus the soundtrack and a comic. http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west/
Nice find blackwiggle! I haven't really been looking for any deals or cheap prices and I don't now.
