I've been playing this over the last week, anybody else?

I haven't seen the usual suspects on my friends list playing it.

It's very similar to FFXIII as the locations are pretty much identical, just at different time periods.

Game play for all intended purposes is the same as well, they have added a Casino where you can race Chocobos that you catch, but seeing that you have no control of them as they race makes the whole thing rather boring, even with the guide betting on them and other needed activities is unnecessarily complex, best left till you really need to do it rather than a enjoyable distraction that it was intended to be IMHO.

The poker machines are definitely boring, there are card tables, but they are not as yet operative in the game, supposabley they will be with a DLC update.

I think this game has been dumbed down too much, there are no real challenges [especially if you have played FFXIII as a comparison], it's just seems like a lot of running around back & forth between different time zones to do tasks that gain you fragments.

Apart from a few selected monsters/bosses you don't need to 5 star kill everything.....granted that you do need to fight/gather intel on every monster/boss in the game [ probably the most challenging part of the game] for one of the quests.

There is a section where you have to answer FF quiz questions.....well unless you have a guide with all the possible questions/answers I doubt anybody would be able to complete it, I somehow think this section of the game was put in solely for the purpose of selling the game guide.

Looks like the next FF will be very similar to this one judging by the "To be continued" at the end of the main story mode.

TBH I doubt if I would bother.

Look this is not a bad game, it's just that the series has lost it's way and become dull and boring [Almost sanitised of any endearing character, I think this is due to it being ported to the Xpox and to appease the Ned Flanders like parents in the USA]

Gone have the little quirky side missions of the older PS1 FF's, same can be said for the boring dialogue [you are given multiple options for replies in FFXIII-2 and small rewards for using the funny answer, problem is the answers aren't funny, so why bother]

What off the main storyline quests you do have, you don't have control of, it's all on rails.

Somebody at Square grow some and bring back the quirkiness and off beat humour of the old games please.

This game definitely headed in the right direction. i really enjoyed it, unfortunately its predecessor left a bad impression on this game.
This game was actually my first platinum

yep better than 13/XIII & i really enjoyed it, it reminded me of X-2 a bit, same kind of hidden side quest thing going on, the exploration was cool & the sub quests(SORTA SPOILER KINDA) e.g.finding all those cactuar* statues while manipulating the weather, were rewarding..... but the ending....yada yada 13versus or 13-3?

Overall definitley a major improvement over XIII

The characters and story still irk me a bit,

But versus xiii was announced in 2007 originally, so who knows there is still atleast XIII-3, Versus XIII, FFX HD, FF type zero (which should be a vita title)  on the horizon atleast, Not to mention other rumours, such as the Dirge of cerebus, crisis core HD or dissidia pack rerelease,
