I've been reading around about Final Fantasy XII on PS3, I'm going to be getting a 60 gig model soon and am looking into how PS2 games look on them.
All the article's I've found are very out of date. So I would like to know if anyone has any recent experiences with the game on a HDTV and on a PS3.
From what I have read on the US forums it was one of the worst games to play through that but the post was dated about 3-4 years ago (2005 I think), was this issue fixed even further after the 1.50 firmware update? Any information, screenshots etc. would be very helpful.
Thanks.

The only PS2 games I have played on PS3 are FFX, FFXII, KZ and Gow2.... I vaguely recall thinking FFX looked worse the first time we put it in, but I changed something in the settings, and I can't remember what... it wouldn't have been upscaling, because I don't have HDMI...
Mind you, FW has been upgraded that many times since that anything could have been changed in the list of options...
I'll put both games back in and see what I think... but from memory, they both still looked good...
Don't forget, if you are using an HDTV... any PS2 or PS1 game is going to look worse, than on an older, smaller Crt TV, regardless of whether the game is being played on a PS2 or PS3... low res games just don't cope well with being blown up on a high res screen, plus to be fair I think our minds start to play tricks on us once we get used to high def gaming...

Ok, you got me curious... so I've just had a look at both... ![]()
My TV is an older Panasonic plasma 42" which doesn't do 720P... its something like 860 x 400... or something like that (I can never remember)... but it will accept a 720P or 1080i signal.... so it's not really an HDTV, but with component it will scale down an HD image to a resolution which is still better than an SD image using composite..
I thought both games looked fine myself.. though very dated compared to the FFXIII trailers
... I would still advise anyone moving to a PS3, even if it is a 60GB model, to not sell their PS2 though... always handy to have for a spare TV one day old consoles...

So whats the deal with changing your 40 to a 60? .... If having multiple consoles on the one telly isn't a pain, and you already have a 40GB, I'd do that myself.... I wouldn't buy a 60GB just for B/C... but then, I very, very rarely play PS2 games.. I also have 4 TVs in the house, so having a slim PS2 that I'm looking after for a friend with my bedroom TV, and my old fat PS2 with his TV (which I'm also looking after) in my spare room isn't a big deal.... As it turns out I do have a 60GB model with B/C... nonetheless if I had a 40, I'd just play FFX or GoW on the rare occasion I do in the bedroom
For a few people PS2 B/C seems to be really important and they really want it.. I can understand that if they are living at home still, or only have one TV... If I had front composite connections on my plasma I'd have no problems bringing the PS2 to the lounge if I had too.... I only have rear connections which is a bit of a pain...
With or without B/C, I'd still advocate owning a seperate PS2.... In fact, when my friend comes back and wants his stuff back, I'll probably by myself a new slim PS2 just to have one... my old fatty is pretty stuffed... it wouldn't even play V8 Supercars 3 when I bought that new, and last I played it I couldn't even get GTA
A to load..

I was looking into getting because the opportunity is there. I have someone interested in getting my 40 gig one and for an extra $100 or so I have been offered a 60 gig.
So I'm just a bit nervous about getting a console thats so old but because I dont have access to a ps2 at the moment (Would need ot buy a new one), I thought I might just use the money I would be getting to get a 60 gig PS3.
I play my old games a bit though, mainly Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, .Hack and Kingdom Hearts. And with the internal memory cards on the PS3 I just think it would be over all more convenient.
