Re: Skyrim or Dragons Dogma?

[ Edited ]

I've played and put over 30 hours into each game and I have to say Dragon's Dogma is the better game. I got Skyrim for Christmas and played it religously for almost two weeks, having 3 characters and getting over 30 hours on each. Don't get me wrong I love the game, but after deleting all my data like a noob, I'm waiting for a patch that will fix all the problems, which will most likely happen when Dawnguard is released.

Dragon's Dogma is fantastic. 38 hours played and I haven't even scratched the surface, it seems the quests are always updating with new ones in every corner. The Pawn system is one of the most amazing things I've seen added to a game, turning a game multiplayer but not in the traditional sense is a really big risk but it is one that pays off. I don't see your companions outfit and weapons changing every couple of days after syncing in Skyrim. This is truely one of those games that you can go around killing monsters for the fun of it and have a Griffon, Dragon or Ogre just randomly come out of nowhere to give you a challenge.

I know that Bethesda claim that Dragon spawns in Skyrim are random, but they appeared in the same places on all three of my saves.

Nightime in Dragon's Dogma will also change the way you play, this is where the resident Evil elements come out to play and can give you a real challenge as enemies seem much stronger at night. I'm Lvl34 and so is my pawn and I still get through a few Dessicated Herbs at night, and InfinateStates' pawn always gets healing.

Re: Skyrim or Dragons Dogma?

Played both, havent invested anywhere near as much time into dragons dogma yet but I am already enjoying it more then I ever enjoyed skyrim.

As mentioned already and what really killed skyrim for me in the end is its complete lack of a combat system, it looks awesome but it is bland and becomes stale ridiculously quickly.

As for the comment about games in the genre with better combat systems being few, I honestly hand on heart can not think of an rpg I have played with a more stale combat system then skyrim that includes turn based ones.

Skyrim excels in having a ridiculous amount of quests with awesome background stories, its crafting systems are standard, its main story is ok and its music  is epic.

Dragons dogma has pretty poor background stories for its side quest thus far, the crafting is standard, its main story is ok so far, its music is dodgey at times (title thing is just wierd) but its combat system is the love child of two unique and awesome games, Shadow of the Collosus and Demon souls on top of this night time turns the game into survival horror.

For me personally there simply isn't a competition if I was given a choice tomorrow and I had to wipe one of the games from existance I would wipe skyrim, not because its a bad game, skyrim is an awesome game I had more time then id care to say of fun with but it did absolutely nothing new for the genre, it was oblivion with better graphics and a smaller map.

Dogma has cross bread demons and collosi and thrown in capcoms survival horror spin it merrits a sequal, several sequals it is brimming with potential.

Re: Skyrim or Dragons Dogma?

Dragons Dogma simply because of the way you interact with the world and everything that lives inside that world.. In my opinion 1st person sword/shield combat is ancient,  I understand that back in the days devs did not have the tech to create proper animations/textures and so on, therefor 1st person was a good choice but now I want a "bit" more. And that 3rd person mode is a joke!! On top of that it was an insult to the gamers because for 2-3 months this game was broken. Anyone can build a HUGE world but not many can deliver a high quality product. Bethsada where lucky because the game was called TES, if it was someone else with some other IP reviews would be different.

Re: Skyrim or Dragons Dogma?

old veteran gangtagammer steps in(that was my id pre "h word" fiasco but i dont have it anymore and dont need it actually..anyway)

first off skyrim and dragons dogma are both open ended rpgs (though capcom calls dogma an adventure game  lulz) they have quests and explorations BUT having sunk many hours into both i must say that they are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT games. skyrim is more story oriented open ended and has alot of sidetracking things in it but dogma is more of a hardcore rpg set in an open world environemnt. skyrim feels like a nice romp through a fantasy universe and it sucks you in, dogma feels like you are in a dangerous world yet you and your party are a group of badass adventurers

skyrim is more of an interactive novel, a slightly badass interactive novel, but one nontheless.the living breathing world only is so because of the various stories really pull you in.. yes the dungeons are alright but nothing worthy of the caliber of a late cycle next gen elder scrolls game. really (and i LOVE elder scrolls dont get me wrong) i dont play TES much for the gameplay but for the lore and im sure many are the same.

it may be just me but dragons dogma is more like a psudo mmo. there is no real drive or focus on the main plot nor are there huge plotlines in the main quest.instead dogma is more if not almost all about the sidequest, crafting, dungeon crawling, and random adventuring. this is a game for people who go for gameplay above all else (though the graphics are amazing even on my sd tv)its a living breathing world not because of the story (which is lacking i must say-though do we really need a story in a game like this?)but because of the fact you feel like you really are what you are supposed to be-a journeying hero to be who is adventuring and becoming a great legenday hero. and its not becaue of a dialouge or hidden book but because of how the game plays.

one more thing(sorry for the long post in trying to get my writing skills up for a career) skyrim is very easy imo...dare i say noob friendly. dragons dogma is a challenging game to us rpg fanatics who played since the late 80s and early 90s but will be pretty freaking hard to those used to todays rpgs.

Re: Skyrim or Dragons Dogma?

i don't know why you people comparing Skyrim "Here" :smileysad: Back when Skyrim came I was out of my hometown(I study outside) I heard about it and wathed Demos,Trailers,Gameplay(Thanks to youtubers) etc..After 1 or 2 months I hear about Glitches, Framerate problems, Save data being too heavy for PS3 and there were proofs on youtube. After 2 and half month I was about to buy this game and I felt I would be wasting money for it and PS3.I waited for a real patch fix for game but it didn't come and till now the game might(You guys tell me) have problems with PS3. No never bought that. But I ran a pirated version on my friend's VAIO and after that I can only tell that It really lacks combat system which is I believe is one the most important element of RPG games. If not a ancient trend but a new gen trend or Essential.

I am not a veteran RPG( Haven't played any Elders Scroll ).

My point is Skyrim is not for PS3. None of you PS3-Skyrim would have completed the whole game. Is there any? Without knowing it well its like partial judgement for SKYRIM over Dragon's Dogma.
And if anyone was particular about PC version he/she should have pointed that out.

Dragon's Dogma starts hard and gets easier and easier. NG+ doesn't even increase the difficulty of enemies.

hmm i havent seen it as fully as you maybe since im only 24 hours in(in two days and some hours..pretty hardcore about games i like) but cosidering ive spent most of those hours leveling off weak mobs and tweaking my skillset and augments i can say the game is definitely getting easier already.

it doesnt really bother me atm because i primarily got this game for the loot, leveling, and pawn system(plus the combat) especially since capcom announced this is going to be a franchise and i want to be one of the more known players through my main pawn. however in the plus game it may be annoying since im trying to do as much as i can bear in this game with the possibly unrealistic goal of getting 100% or as insanely close completion. ive done the full completion on rpgs before but never on a game this size(wish me luck anyway-if i can play phantasy star portable 2 for over 200 hours i can do this lol)
