Potentially great idea to keep SOCOM 'alive and well'.

It certainly appears that SOCOM Confrontation is battling both server and software issues.

It's a really flippin fine game, especially for the community side of things,  but it's marred with issues.  After a reeeeally painful night of bugged out playing the other day I got to thinking...

SOCOM, along with many other online games, has a waiting lobby for games.  We can spend a long time in these lobbies as clan members / friends etc gather prior to a match.  How about rejigging the lobby layout to allow for advertising popups at the bottom (Vidzone style).  The revenue could be used to sort out the servers.  I don't know about anyone else, but I'll take some soft sell in a corner if it means I can actually play the game without getting disconnected so often.  It also means that game developers and publishers become accountable to a third party, who would have a vested interest in a game's success!  ;-)

It goes without saying that the major flaws/issues with the software need to be fixed, the biggest for me being the loss of sound in game (this is a THX certified game after all, so it's just plain bad that this happens!).

Any thoughts anyone on the idea (for SOCOM or other games).  I have a feeling that this is used on other games anyway...

you have come up with a very clever idea, i would like to see this in all games that have us waiting in a lobby before the start of a game.

great idea actually, only problem is that there's no guarantee that the money generated would be pumped back into the game over keeping it for a profit..  kudos though

There's also no guarantee that throwing sacks of money round like dirty toys would solve issues any faster. But anyway, If something like this could be implemented and be beneficial to the titles that do have us sitting around waiting in lobbies id be all for it.

But I could see people ending up complaining about having to pay for DLC and the like if they had to put up with constant adds aswell...

The UFC 2009 game has in ring advertising that changes after every event. Surely they could do something like that for the billboards in Socom when they eventually decide to render themselves lol.  Great idea though shame we'll probably not see it in this socom.

Re: Potentially great idea to keep SOCOM 'alive and well'.

I doubt advertisements on socom will help, as they will struggle to get companys wanting to advertise on socom, and if they do get game or gamestation to do it, /six wont get that much money. on average 5000 people are on at 1 time around the globe, so thats probably the amount of regular socom player between 5000 - 10000 people. Numbers aint very big. Any money made theres also gonna be charges on /six, sony will take a hight % for letting them add adverts, U.K tax will be high, Same as all other taxed countrys. So very little cash generation. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
